De Permit Fete 2012 (Grenada)
De Permit Fete 2012

Aug 10th, 2012

Summer Time in The Isle of Spice

The Carnival season kicked off with GOLD! Kirani James, took home Grenada’s first ever Olympic Gold medal with a stunning 400m victory at London 2012, so you know it was rhell mas in town and country! Kirani’s win was the biggest highlight at the time, that I say people forget Carnival was less than a week away. It was easy to transition into the celebrations of Carnival. It could not fall in a better time that this!

I was riding solo this year, and unfortunately missed Pree Day, Tallpree’s annual concert in the National Stadium, which this year featured a lineup of artist including Alison Hinds, Benjai, Skinny Fabulous, Swappi, Mr. Killa, Lavaman, Luni Sparks and Electrify, to name a few. But the masses say, it couldn’t top Pree Day 2011.We hadda take a look back and compare notes .... hmmmmm.

After my ‘ Kirani Fetein’ recovery, it was off to the Permit Fete at Aquarium. An annual fete that is said to NEVER disappoint, and is supposedly always filled with vibes. That was the place to be Carnival Friday night, but its quite embarrassing saying this... but It was the first time I went to Permit Fete! ... and I had a GREAT time! And I goin back next year... and year after! People kept pouring in. KES was on island and he too had to stop by to join the fun fete. They performed at White in the Moonlight the night after in Moonlight City.

Next stop for me was Jouvert in St. George’s. I was on my way from about 3AM! I was so excited. I was anticipating what crazy things I would see on the road! By the way, if you did not know ... Grenada has THE Best Jouvert in the WORLD! The original Jab! If you have not experienced it... YOU MUST! Put it on your Carnival Bucket List. After about 7 hours of jouvert, I was drained. I took a water taxi and dropped at the Beautiful Grand Anse to wash off the oil and paint that my friends passed on me all day.

Next stop was our Monday Night Mas. NO OTHER place in the world has such. To give you an idea what’s is like, imagine a huge rave party with hundreds of people, in t-shirt bands, with glow sticks, silly hats, and whistles, taking the streets of St. George’s by storm at night. Plenty lights, Glow Sticks, the full works.

The final stop, was Pretty Mas (Parade of the Bands) on Tuesday. The sexiest and most beautiful people dress up in colorful costumes, slightly glad with beads, sequins, feathers, teeny and weeny bikinis smile, parade the streets to town! The numbers have certainly increased from last year.
