God Make Man, Man Make Money

God make woman to eat man money! Big up to Fross on winning Power Soca Monarch with "Eat Man Money" which was definitely a crowd favourite from the first event we touched, to the last. I'm writing this review for the Lucian Carnival virgins, because if you've already been to one, you know words won’t do it justice.

Sadly, I landed the day after HEELLOOOOO (Carnival Wednesday), but heard good reviews. Straight from the airport, straight into fete as U4RIA kicked off the season for me. It was like being personally welcomed to the beautiful island by Teddyson John and his friends in Soca. This grand stadium (Daren Sammy Cricket Ground) would also serve as host of Color Me Red “The Story” the Friday night, where we got another serving of Saint Lucia’s best and vibes-iest Soca. Little did I realize that it was just the warm-up, as there were three J'ouvert parties in a row to left to hit going into Saturday morning.

First up, we boarded some huge all-terrain trucks which shuttled us to a secret and secluded area to start the Mess. Greeted with bouncing bumpers sticky of molasses, we partied through the early morning, ushering the sunrise, our cue to team up and head over to the next event. Stunning views of the Pigeon Island beach at sunrise was a stark contrast to the pure duttiness you met when arriving at Soak’T n Colour. This event was definitely the wildest, craziest, loosest-conduct event for the season hands down. I will leave the rest to your imagination. Last, but definitely not least of the pump was BlockO, where there was little bit more behavior, but still far from stush. Water, Powder and Bumper as we fete til we fallin’down. Later that night (Saturday), we were back at Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Beausejour again for Famaly, which featured Skinny Fabulous, Voice, Asa Bantan and Uptop Boss Teejay allowing feters to have a small Dancehall break from the Soca.

The next day is what I’d call a Food Fete day, starting off right with Indulgence Breakfast Party. Beautiful crowd out in their Sunday best, mouthwatering food and non-stop flowing drinks made for the perfect event. Still hungry? Next was Red Brunch, an intimate, classy mixer with just the right amount of vibe to recover from the pace while still having a great time. Shout out to the Grenadian Bad Boy V'ghn who gave a surprised performance. Last, but far from least was Brazen, which could only be described with one word, HOT! Sexy bikinis covering even sexier ladies, premium service and awesome ambiance. Exotic Events never fails.

Jump Up With Your Lover! I also won’t bother try to describe Saint Lucia Carnival Parade of the Bands too much. Again, I’d simply refer you to our coverage. Neither sun nor rain could stop revelers from getting their sweet release after 2 years away from a carnival stage. Special props to: DJ ASAP, Ricky T, Dhirv 2Funny, Umpa, Shemmy J & Edwin, Ezra, Cooyah Fyah, Blackboy and Sukie for the great music that carried the culture and vibe of Lucian Carnival.

Until the next one...

Temperature

The weather in Saint Lucia stays consistently warm throughout the year. The average temperature ranges from 23 to 31 degrees Celsius (84 to 87 degrees Fahrenheit). Many visitors who trek to Saint Lucia prefer to go during May and June when the temperatures reach the high 70s to 80s.

Electricity / Voltage

Walk with your universal travel adapters. Saint Lucia uses 220v, so you need a step down transformer to use any US 110v or non dual voltage device. Some resorts will offer both 220v and 110v outlets in rooms.

TJJ Recommended Hotels

Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa (Rodney Bay)
St. James's Club Morgan Bay (Choc Bay)
Bel Jou Hotel (Castries)
The Landings Resort & Spa (Gros Islet)
BodyHoliday (Cap Estate) *5-Star*

Best places to stay

Choosing where to stay in Saint Lucia can be difficult. The north of Saint Lucia is different from the south creating two very atmospheres. However, when it comes to Carnival you want to stay in the north side located near the capital city of Castries. This is where you'll find all the fetes and nightlife. It's the busier part of the island with resorts lining Marigot Bay to the South and Rodney Bay to the North of the capital.

Communication / Mobile Providers

Digicel and FLOW pre-paid sim cards can be purchased locally.

Transportation

Rent a car. Remember to drive on the left side of the road! Taxis are easily available at taxi stands or by telephone. All authorized taxis have a light blue number plate with a TX prefix. Before you hire a taxi, confirm the fare. Some of the major taxi services on the island include Saint Lucia Taxi Service, Saint Lucia Airport Transfers, Saint Lucia Executive, Saint Lucia Airport Shuttle, Real Saint Lucia Tours, and many more.

Flights

Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in Vieux Fort is located 40 miles south of Castries, the capital city. George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) is an inter-island airport just outside Castries.

Baller Lifestyle: Helicopter transfers between Hewanorra and George F.L. Charles airports reduce the travel time between the south and north of the island.

Travel Tip: If traveling from Trinidad (POS) and flights with LIAT or Caribbean Airlines are unavailable or expensive, look at booking with British Airways to land in UVF.

FOOD AND DRINKS

Cost of a 2 Piece Combo

EC$16.50 / US$6.10 for a 2 Piece Combo. Using our KFC global standard, a 2 Pc. Chicken Combo, which includes individual side & medium drink, cost $5.99 in the US.

Local Food

Green figs and saltfish is considered the national dish of Saint Lucia. You can experiment with a number of different flavors of Cassava Bread including chocolate, cherry, and saltfish. Callaloo soup is something you won’t be able to put down once you taste a spoonful, and Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa's SeaGrapes Beach Bar & Restaurant serves up authentic St. Lucian food and some of the freshest seafood around.

Local Drinks

Of all the rums that Saint Lucia Distillers makes, perhaps the best known and most widely drunk is the line of Chairman's Reserve.

Have yourself an ice-cold Piton beer. It's the most popular local brand in Saint Lucia and named after the world-famous Gros Piton and Petit Piton mountains on the island, and hopefully your trip also includes a trip up these amazing peaks.

Alcohol purchase

The Pointe Seraphine duty free shopping complex is the largest in the city of Castries, conveniently located adjacent to the main cruise ship terminal, and just five minutes from both the city centre and the George F. L. Charles airport. The majority of the mas bands are drinks inclusive, and there are plenty of rum shops and road side vendors selling.
