KERWIN DU BOIS "If I fail to succeed then success is my failure, I was born a winner." Kerwin Du Bois was born in Trinidad in the capital city Port of Spain, the heart of the islands annual Carnival celebrations. Du Bois came to singing while at primary school but it was as a student at Tranquility Secondary School that his talent began to shine and be encouraged by his history teacher, Lance Heath, who also ran a Junior calypso tent. Du Bois excelled as a singer in competitions at his school and went on to take part in the nations first Junior Calypso Monarch competition, winning the title in the second year. Du Bois rose through the ranks of the calypso world, winning the Junior Calypso Monarch competition, the Young Kings competition and reaching as far the Big Yard for the National Calypso Monarch finals on several occasions. He was hailed as a rising star, delighting young and old alike with his melodious voice and thought-provoking lyrics and was selected to represent Trinidad along with other young calypsonians for an Arts Council funded Calypso Youth Exchange programme hosted by the Association of British Calypsonians. In recent years, Du Bois has spread his wings and can no longer be considered simply a calypsonian. He experimented into the fields of Sound Engineering and Audio Editing and his voice is aired on numerous amounts of Radio adverts becoming the voice of Soca Music throughout London, England. His efforts have been acknowledged by some of the other major soca artists who have tapped into the talents of this accomplished hit maker. He has produced tracks for 2004 Soca Monarch Bunji Garlin's Black Spaniard album written and performed the 2004 hit "BubbleNut" with Xtatik's Machel Montano. He has also worked with the dynamic vocal group H2O Phlo on a track entitled "J'ouvert" and has been an influence in encouraging younger Soca Music lovers to become apart of the Artform itself. Du Bois is also an accomplished DJ and has earned for his skills on the turntables from listeners in the Soca Fetes and to BBC 1Xtra's International Sounds of Soca. He is currently lending his expertise to the recently launched online radio station socafm.com. Du Bois is a powerhouse of young talent bringing Soca music to the world. 2007
