The
Legacy Phoenix Youth Committee headed by Bandleaders "Big Mike" Antoine
and Juliet de la Bastide recently shared in the Christmas spirit of giving with
the children of Christ Child Convalescent Home. As
gifts were distributed, smiles appeared on the faces of the children, who in return
sang Christmas songs and chatted happily with Legacy Committee members. In addition
to gifts, clothing and household articles were also donated.
This
initiative is now in its second year with corporate Trinidad and Tobago also contributing
to make this event even more memorable for the kids These contributions have enabled
Legacy to help the children of yet another home, the Amica Home in St. Augustine,
who will also receive gifts and a visit by the Legacy committee. Legacy
and its Phoenix Youth Committee believe that a great aspect of keeping the culture
of Trinidad and Tobago alive is by instilling the basic teachings of love, sharing
and appreciation. As adults, it is important to let our young people know that
they are appreciated. If we are to fight crime, we must address it at a human
level, showing love and respect for one another.
The
youth of Trinidad and Tobago hold the legacy of this country in their hands; we
need to ensure that it is a legacy worth keeping. Many thanks and heart-felt appreciation
are extended to Maritime Services, Scotia Bank, Tracks Auto Supplies, Clico Investment
Bank, Gayelle the Channel, Newsday Ltd., Ali's Pharmacy, the staff of Intercontinental
Shipping Ltd., Legacy, and Coca Cola.
