Sean PaulTaking the Streets by Storm, Dancehall Icon Sean Paul premieres his poignant new single and video "Never Gonna Be The Same."
Posted 12-15-06

"Say when mi look up ina mi life its plain to see. That it’s never gonna be the same. Take another step on towards my destiny. But the memories still remain." With reflective lyrics like these, recent AMA and Grammy award winner, Sean Paul , sets a more conscious tone on his new single, "Never Gonna Be The Same." Known for his upbeat party anthems, Sean adds more dimension and emotion for the ears and souls of his listeners on this latest release from his critically-acclaimed, Platinum album, The Trinity.

Following the blazing tunes, "We Be Burnin," and "Give It Up To Me" and his third number one Billboard smash, "Temperature," "Never Gonna Be The Same," the new single off The Trinity, is just beginning to hit the streets. Sean's steady vibe single has already caught the ears of deejays in Europe and the Caribbean and is now starting to impact the United States. The video, which has been running the streets and burning up local video shows like NYC's Ralph McDaniel's Video Music Box, Getto Video, Plush TV, Rockers TV and Video Mixx, is building momentum on major media outlets and has recently been added to MTV Jams, BETJ, MTV Tempo, VH1 Soul, and mtvU. The single continues to build at radio and its attention has earned an exclusive feature on www.vibe.com. The song is currently enjoying early reggae and hip hop mix show airplay at radio and has just been added to regular rotation on WZMX in Hartford.

This powerful tune features Sean's heartfelt sentiments over the Seasons riddim, produced by Donovan 'Vendetta' Bennett aka Don Corleon, one of Jamaica's hottest young producers and a key contributor to The Trinity album. NGBTS, a sentimental ode lamenting lost loved ones was inspired by the personal loss of his longtime friend and mentor, Daddigon. "Wish I could rewind back all the hands of time and bring back Daddigon a great breadrin of mine, I…" Daddigon, Sean Paul’s long time friend and mentor and founding father of the Dutty Cup Crew was innocently gunned down on January 27 th, 2005. Sean soulfully expresses his feelings of personal loss when he cries "Still cannot believe they took your life away, but those who pulled the trigger cannot take away. The covenant the righteous have with Jah Jah. So I know I'll see you again my brother." Daddigon also worked on other musical projects, including Damian Marley's Halfway Tree album and was also signed to the Marley's Universal distributed Ghetto Youth label. The reggae community will sorely miss what was once a promising talent, now immortalized through Sean's poignant lyrics on "Never Gonna Be the Same."

This video, the first major Sean Paul video filmed in Sean's homeland of Jamaica, was Co- directed by A-List music video director Jesse Terrero, whose previous credits include 50 cent's "Candy Shop" and Lloyd Bank's "Hands Up," and Jamaican superstar director Ras Kassa, director of Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock."

T&T Artists Protest!
Posted 12-05-06

UTT Academy in Wallerfield undertakes to arrange a forum with cultural stakeholders on the facilities they have jurisdiction over.

The artist press conference called on Thursday 30thNovember 2006 at the National Museum in Port of Spaincame off as planned despite the venue being revokedfrom the artist representative group.

The press conference was called to air a number ofartist grievances most notably the failure by theMinistry of Culture to agree to consultation withartist on a host of cultural mega-projects totalingalmost $5 Billion. The projects include 3 Academies, 2National Performing Arts Centres, the $700 MillionSavannah Carnival Centre, 90 community centres and 1National Archives Building. Meanwhile coming out of ameeting with UTT Academy head Professor KennethRamchand the day before, the UTT Academy inWallerfield has undertaken to arrange a meeting withcultural stakeholders on the facilities they havejurisdiction over.

On Friday 1st December 2006 construction was to beginon the National Performing Arts Centre and AcademyBuilding on the Princes Building Ground. The facilityis the same one that artists have lobbied for 45years. Artist plans for the site go back to schematicdrawings and institutional specs drawn up by TerryEvelyn and George Bailey in the late 60s. Plans forthe Performing Arts facility have been proposed formultiple locations by successive administrations andwere even the subject of a competition by the NARadministration. Many major architectural firms in thecountry took part in this- however these plans werederailed by the subsequent coup and that government'sloss of power.

A local architect was pulled from the project recentlyand the project was given over to the Chinese under aloan agreement signed by the Manning government. AChinese architect has conceptualised the entireproject and Chinese contractors and labour is to beused on the project. Despite artist and stakeholdersnever having seen the designs- work was to begin onthe Princes Building Facility on Friday 1st December2006. The only reason that work has been halted on thefacility has been due to the opposition of the currenttenants of the Princes Building Grounds- the tennis, netball and hockey courts committees who also were notconsulted. Many of these bodies did not even know ofthe plans until they saw them in the newspaper about 1month aback. The Mayor of Port of Spain has joinedwith the sports tenants to say that they will not moveuntil alternative facilities are built. Government hassince allocated land south of Memorial Park for thecourts although they will be a loss of court numbers.

The latter confirms what artists are saying as regardsthe bad planning those results from lack ofconsultation. Despite the expertise of hundreds oftechnical personnel, grassroots practitioners, andvisionary award winning artists, government hasrefused to call the requested forum whereby thisexpertise can be garnered and relevant discussionsheld

More than 30 Artist signed a document submitted to theMinistry of Culture in March requesting a forum forconsultation. The document was CCed to UDECOTT and theHonourable Prime Minister. Signing on to the documentwere at least 12 stakeholder groups, 3 ex-Directors ofCulture*, an ex-Permanent Secretary** and 3 SeniorArtist***. To date the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs has notanswered the call.

ACTT reaffirms that a National Performing Arts Centreis a serious proposition with very specific specs. Italso is a much needed facility that we do not want tostop. 2 generations of artist have died fighting forit. ACTT however is affirming that we want theseinstitutions to be built with integrity so that theycan serve their purpose! We affirm that a badlyconceived building is worst than none at all. Withthis in mind we are saying clearly NO CONSTRUCTIONWITHOUT CONSULTATION!

ACTT was formerly the Entertainment Coalition ofTrinidad and Tobago (EIC) the organization responsiblefor championing a wide range of artist issues since1997. EIC organized and led the three (3) major artistmarches of 2000, 2001 and 2003. ACTT will comprisethe leaders of and/or appointed members from all thecultural body stakeholders in Trinidad and Tobago anda committed secretariat that will fight collectiveartist battles full-time.

Inner CircleReggae Icons & Music Industry Heavyweights Inner Circle Team up with Marley's & 'One Blood' Jr. Reid Preparing new album for 2007!
Posted 12-03-06

(Miami-Dec 1st, 2006) Legendary reggae band Inner Circle, creators of the COPS theme song "Bad Boys," and the mega hit "Sweat (A La La La La Song)," are back on the airwaves once again with two brand new singles "Smoke" and "Big Shotta" and a new dual acoustic/electric album 'State of the World' scheduled for release in 2007!

The new single from the group, "Big Shotta," recently added to heavy rotation on Sirius Satellite Radio, features a remix with guest vocals from none other than 'One Blood’' Junior Reid. This former Black Uhuru front man has been making impressive moves recently on hip hop collaborations with legendary producer Dr Dre with his protégé The Game on "Its Okay (One Blood)" along with rising star Mimms with "This is why I'm Hot." "Big Shotta," touches a chord on multiple levels and the sentiment can be felt during these serious times when phrases like "Too much blood a run, blood a run..." seem to have an even deeper meaning.

Meanwhile, the band's first single "Smoke" featuring Damien and Stephen Marley has been impacting radio and the internet and is starting to show up on the charts and station play lists. The song, which happens to be a blinded by love story, has resonated well within the reggae community with the hook” Smoke gets in my eyes...just gotta have it!" To listen to the song go to www.myspace.com/badboysofreggae.

Although the group may have been out of the spotlight for the past six years, they haven't taken a break from the music. With a consistent touring schedule and the establishment of a world class recording facility Circle House Studios, the band has been carefully calculating the release of their latest project 'State of the World' due in spring of 2007. Fans will be glad to know that the new album will feature the classic pop reggae sound that has made Inner Circle one of the most successful bands in music; the collection will also showcase politically and spiritually charged songs that reflect on the reality of the world we live in.

Having recently acquired a large majority of the group's back catalog, establishing their own management company, Sound Bwoy Entertainment, and the day to day activities of running a multi-dimensional recording facility, one could think they might be overwhelmed. But this seems all in a day's work for a band that has transformed their chart topping success to a regional musical empire, and is looking to expand their horizons even further. In recent years much of the groups time has been dedicated to the development of their phenomenal recording facilities Circle House Studios. The studio of choice for today's top recording artists, Circle House has pumped out countless chart topping hits in Hip Hop, R&B, and Pop. On any given day the studio could be hosting chart toppers like Beyonce, P Diddy, Lil' Jon, or 50 Cent who are all regular clients. Along with industry superstars, the compound also opens its doors for local artists in Miami, and is always scouting new talent to develop in the studio.

One of the reggae industry's best kept secrets, Inner Circle, first hit the scene with singer Jacob 'Killer' Miller in the 70's. With hits like "Tenement Yard," and the focal point of a feature length movie "Rockers," the group became the most popular group in Jamaica, possibly even more popular at home than their friends Bob Marley and the Wailers who were experiencing increased international recognition at the time. Soon after this initial success, tragedy struck the band when their lead singer passed away, and the band entered a phase of reconstruction which eventually led to a new recipe for success, and the biggest hit of their career, the infamous "Bad Boys."

Possibly one of the most recognizable theme songs in all of television, "Bad Boys" continues to be synonymous with COPS on FOX Network. However, this tremendous notoriety has been both a blessing and a curse for the band. The infamous song, recorded in '87 grew in popularity during the early 90's, propelling the band to their first ever platinum success. The stigma of the song's success has overshadowed the group's long history as one of the pioneers in reggae music and innovators in the music industry. Although, they have embraced the label ‘Bad Boys of Reggae,’ they continue to be humble about the songs influence. The chart topping success and mainstream exposure have always been a topic of conversation for the band. The groups founding members’ bassist and guitarist, brother's Ian and Roger Lewis, seem to play it off with a sense of ease and complacency of true professionals. They are happy for their previous success, but optimistic that the best is yet to come.

The group is currently on the road promoting “Smoke” and “Big Shotta”, and has recently returned from several dates in Hawaii. For updates on Inner Circle and their upcoming album "State of the World" go to the band's official web site www.innercircle-reggae.com.

Bounty KillerIt's Official, Bounty Killer along with the Alliance join the VP Records Roster
Posted 10-30-06

October 26th, 2006, Jamaica, NY--VP Records seals exclusive album agreements with The Alliance and Bounty Killer. The indestructible force of The Alliance consists of honorary members, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Wayne Marshall, Vybz Kartel, as well as, new protégés Movado, Busy Signal, Aidonia, and Bling Dawg. In early 2007, The Alliance will release some of the baddest tunes on their debut album. Then in the summer of 2007, Bounty Killer will return with his solo album featuring all new material to make another mark in dancehall history.

This November, VP will reintroduce Bounty’s musical genius to the world with “Nah No Mercy…The Warlord Scrolls,” featuring 41 of his most esteemed hits over the last decade. Besides this collection, it has been over three years since Bounty Killer’s last solo album, so this much anticipated venture is long overdue. “Bounty is one of Jamaica’s greatest icons and has been in the business for over 10 years producing, dee-jaying and developing new talent. He will continue to build on these legacies during the development of his new solo album as well as The Alliance’s release,” states Bounty’s manager Julian Jones-Griffiths.

Since the early 90s, VP has been involved with Bounty Killer’s previous projects, including his last Ghetto Dictionary albums (the Grammy nominated “Art of War” and the successful “The Mystery”). CEO of VP Records, Chris Chin, elaborates, “It’s always a pleasure to work with a multi-faceted artist like Bounty because the opportunity is endless. Both Bounty and The Alliance have unique elements that appeal to both dancehall and hip-hop fans, so we plan to expand on this success and transcend even more borders.”

Luciano 'Child Of A King'Luciano 'Child Of A King' In Stores October 24th, 2006
Posted 10-24-06

Following the footsteps of the his great predecessors Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Garnett Silk, Luciano continues to carry the torch as a Roots icon. On October 24th, 2006, he spreads the Rasta message with 15 powerful tracks off his new album ‘Child Of A King.’ As a true ambassador for his community, he gives a voice to the oppressed with reason, spirituality, and artistic vision. Sending a prophetic message throughout its entirety, ‘Child Of A King’ offers a mix of original songs co-written and complimented by the brilliant production of Byron Murray (In The Streetz Productions).

Only a chosen few can master the art of storytelling, and Luciano hones this skill to perfection on opening track “Remember When.” His eloquently pronounced vocals create a vision of beauty before debauchery by recalling a moment when the native Africans lived as kings and queens before enslavement. Then on “This One’s For The Leaders,” Luciano confronts the political war leaders by stating the obvious destruction of humanity and shares his ideas about resolution. Similarly, “Brother Man” addresses the absurdity and ramifications of all the gun-toters who are aimlessly kill lives. Meanwhile, the sorrowing words, yet blissful harmonies of “Cant Take No More” compete with some of Lovers rock’s best, while a new version of the 60’s classics “Young Gifted & Black” reinvents opportunity and motivation for the youth. And on ending track, “Child of a King, Son of the Emperor”…. Luciano reiterates the importance and blessings given through the kindred spirit of Jah. These lyrical journeys could not be complete without a variety of live distinguished instrumentation and talent, which is present throughout this album and on his well-recognized tours.

Reggae is music and much more. It's a rhythm set to a poor man’s cry, a pledge from singer to struggler that better must come. No other reggae singer today delivers that promise with as much grace, power, and heart as Jamaican baritone Luciano. Both this new album and Luciano's rags-to-riches tale testify to the depth and constancy of the singer-songwriter’s human commitment.

Jepther Washington McClymont was born on October 20th,1964, in the fruitful parish of Manchester in a close-knit community known as Davey Town to mother Sophie and father Arthur, the seventh of nine children. From early in his life, he was singing in the church choir and at youth clubs. With a need to feed the fever which raged deep within, he decided to go to Kingston, the island’s capital, to make an attempt at life and inquire into the music business, only to meet with failure. A despondent Jepther soon returned to Davey Town where he sold oranges and other fruits in the market. He tells the story of singing little ditties as he solicited shoppers, but the fever still raged and he made yet another attempt at Kingston and the music. It was 1992 and he had no idea what he was getting into. “My life has been like a storm,” he once told a reporter, but this return was “with much more seriousness. I would do upholstery during the day, then go to the studios at night to look for work,” he remembers. Soon, Homer Harris, one of his mentors, renamed Jepther “Luciano,” as his voice was rich and vibrant like that of the opera singer. Luciano quickly points out that “Luci means bearer of the light”…plus it signifies the number seven, which is his favorite number.

His radiant baritone quickly became the voice of choice for many a sound system deejay that would have him voice over classic recycled rhythms. His reputation grew. His dub plates became “killing machines” in dances “dusting out sound bwoys” in sound clashes the world over. Then came the death of Garnett Silk in December, 1994. Silk’s haunting falsettos ruled the airwaves and dancehalls in the early 90’s. Garnett was one of Luciano’s primary influences. Silk’s untimely death devastated Luciano. So, in an effort to keep the torch burning for roots and culture music, Luciano’s songs quickly filled the void created by Garnett’s demise. He became one of the most prolific writers on the culture scene, working with producers like Bobby Digital and Mafia and Fluxy. Chart toppers like “One Way Ticket” and “Neighborhood Watch” received heavy rotation. “It’s Me Again” reflected its maker’s struggles and newfound depth, and it struck a chord deep in the reggae consciousness. More uniquely radiant songs followed in quick succession, among them were, “Lord Give Me Strength,” “Your World And Mine,” and “Heaven Help Us All.” It was soon clear that reggae’s new hero was drawing from a bottomless well, and millions of international reggae fans happily succumbed to Luciano’s rapture.

The U.K. branch of Island Records, the label that introduced Marley to the world, hastily signed Luciano through his home Xterminator label. ‘Where There Is Life,’ released in ’95, corralled Luciano’s hit single, plus equally luminous new tracks, for one of the greatest reggae albums ever. “The sky is the limit for Luciano, you could take him anywhere,” said legendary drummer/producer Sly Dunbar, who arranged and played on the album. In 1997, Island Records released ‘Messenger,’ another definitive body of work. From this album, hits like “How Could You and Never Give Up My Pride” became anthems within the dancehall, providing the artist with an opportunity to tour the world, playing in predominately ethnic communities of the Americas and England at first. Then he was off to Europe and Africa appearing and collaborating with Senegalese world music star Baaba Maal and his Dande Lenol band on the single “Africans Unite” for Maal’s 1998 release, ‘Nomad Soul.’ Luciano’s popularity also extends to South America and the Caribbean. When he tours, songs like “Sweep Over My Soul” and “Ulterior Motive” are high-energy powerhouse performances that electrify and intoxicate his audiences.

His many releases on VP Records includes 1994’s ‘One Way Ticket,’ 1995’s ‘After All,’ 1999’s ‘Sweep Over My Soul,’ 2000’s ‘LIVE,’ 2001’s ‘A New Day,’ also released in 2001 was ‘4 Rebels’ featuring Sizzla, Yami Bolo, Anthony B and Luciano. Then there was his 2002 release ‘The Best of Luciano,’ 2003’s ‘Serve Jah,’ 2005’s ‘Serious Times,’ and of course 2006’s ‘Child Of A King.’

Aron believed that you should help those of good character who were already making an effort, to take the next step. He did this selflessly with finances, counsel or his time. Aron Y Haile, an African Canadian who died in 2003 at the young age of 30, was an accomplished student, entrepreneur, software developer, entertainment event planner, theater arts enthusiast, and adventurer. E-Zone on BET JE-Zone on BET J
Posted 10-16-06

E-Zone, the Trinidad & Tobago produced Caribbean Entertainment Magazine programme can now be seen by 26 million subscribers via the US Cable Channel BET J, a division of Black Entertainment Television (BET).

E-Zone Entertainment Limited recently signed an agreement which will see the E-Zone airing every Monday at 11:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. with repeats on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to US and Caribbean audiences.

Show Owner/Producer Lisa Wickham views this achievement as another milestone is E-Zone's journey to take Caribbean lifestyles and entertainment into the international arena. "They looked at several episodes and were excited by the content as well as the production value of the show which of course is directly related to our 2-year relationship with Militainment Limited.".

E-Zone Entertainment and Militainment now produce, shoot and edit regional festivals for BET and BET J. "Working with the BET team is exciting, however, of course we are even prouder of the fact that our homegrown production which started airing first on TTT has been snatched up by an International Cable channel". "What's fascinating" she continued "is that they are keen on our older Seasons like Season 4 & 5 where we highlighted events like 'Vincy Mas' and the 'Dominica Creole Festival', 'Caribana' and of course T&T events like Denise Belfon in Concert and Carnival" so its like new life has been given to them, but we had produced them so that they would have been timeless".

Previous to this E-Zone aired on national TV stations across the Caribbean as well as on OMNI Channel 1 in Toronto and TV 6 in Trinidad. "I guess our next goal would have to be Europe, Africa and Australasia!" says Wickham.

UK Youth for E-Zone Season 7UK Youth for E-Zone Season 7
Posted 09-11-06

He's just 14 years old, but already he speaks German, flies airplanes, as a Corporal (Cadet) in the Air Training Corps (ATC) sponsored by the Royal Air Force and was one of the one hundred or so fortunate students to be selected to attend The Brits, a prestigious school for the performing arts and technology in the UK. And now UK born and bred, Joshua Buckmire will be the youngest presenter on the popular Caribbean TV Show The E-Zone!

A natural artist, Joshua is studying Visual Arts and Design at The Brits. Each year the school takes on around 130 14-year-olds, who study a full range of GCSEs along with vocational courses. There are often three to four applicants to every place, with selection based on auditions, workshops and interviews.

"I am very excited about this opportunity" says Joshua. "I've never done anything like this before, but it is something that I like so I really jumped at it when I was asked to present for Notting Hill Carnival. I was really nervous at first but then my parents are Trini, so I got the hang of it soon enough." He laughed.

According to Lisa Wickham, Producer of the Show -"The E-Zone welcomes the opportunity to expose young talent particularly from around the globe. Over the past few years we have introduced new faces to the show. Joshua is a fresh face, with a lot of talent that will be developed throughout the Season as much as he is available." Joshua has a rigorous study programme at The Brits, which may not allow him to travel much. "However as much as possible I shall make every effort to train him and other young people so that the E-Zone will continue to unearth new talent."

CACCTB Exec Board and Hon. Gerard GreeneNo other Chamber of Commerce Quite Like This
Posted 08-30-06

The Caribbean and American Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay represents the interests of Caribbean and American owned businesses in the Tampa Bay tri-county region. Its Board of Directors includes individuals from the U.S., St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Trinidad and Tobago, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti. Their vision is to be the preferred private sector business organization facilitating and stimulating free and fair trade and investment within the Tampa Bay tri-county region and the Caribbean.

On August 23, 2006 over 50 professional business persons, to include officers from central Florida and local bay area chambers attended The Caribbean and American Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay’s Inaugural General Membership Event in Land 'O Lakes. Attendees were serenaded by sounds of the violin played by Dayren Santamaria and later enjoyed a lovely rendition of The Star Spangled Banner played on the steel pan by Mr. Leroy DeGazon of Steel Plus Enterprises.

Globalization, trade, and business opportunities between Florida and the Caribbean were the main focus of the guest speakers: The Honourable Mr. Gerard Greene, Consul General of the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago, gave insights into ambitious plans and philosophy of his island nation’s vision to enhance trade on a global scale. Mr. Jim Pyburn, Director of Trade Development and Latin America of the Tampa Port Authority briefed the audience on the robust growth and future plans of the Port of Tampa. He welcomed the chamber’s vision and expressed a desire to broaden economic interaction between Tampa and the Caribbean islands.

Ms. Jackie Rojas-Quinones, President of Tampa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Board of Director of U.S Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, gave a rousing speech that not only kept the crowd smiling but gave words of wisdom to the new chamber. Derek Lloyd, president of the newly formed organization, gave an inspirational speech on what CACCTB was all about. He pointed out the four factors that comprise the chamber’s mission. 1) A forum for dissemination of information and exchange of opinions; 2) Influencing policies and legislation; 3) Facilitating business opportunities; and 4) Educating members on globalization issues. He went on to showcase one of the chamber’s project to provide satellite phones to disaster relief organizations on all Caribbean islands within in the hurricane belt. Another idea was to create a market for containerised petrol mobile units to be used in devastated areas like New Orleans, or rural areas of the Caribbean. Everyone who attended was pleasantly satisfied by the wealth of information they received and the many ties the Tampa Bay Region could have with the Caribbean.

The board is actively seeking members to reflect the diversity of the Caribbean and American entrepreneurs interested in doing business in the region. To contact the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay, call (813)-333-9331 or visit their website at www.cacctb.org.

Reggae Gold 2006Reggae Gold 2006 Tops Japanese Charts
Posted 07-18-06

Jamaica, NY -- July 14th 2006 -- Landing the number #1 spot on the international import chart and top 30 on both the national and international charts, Reggae Gold is dominating the Japanese music landscape. This year 'Variety Is The Spice of Life' and VP has reggae’s biggest hits in dancehall, roots and lover's rock featuring an exclusive bonus DVD to prove it. In the past week, Reggae Gold jumped from #9 to #1 international import spot, took another giant leap from #136 to #30 on the domestic/international chart, and climbed up to the #23 spot on the international charts. Koji Yawata Managing Director of 24x7/VP Records Japan says, "The continued success of Reggae Gold shows the strength of the reggae market in Japan. I also feel that this year's Reggae Gold had the perfect balance of songs between reggae and dancehall; from Sean Paul to Tony Matterhorn, Wayne Wonder to Gyptian, Reggae Gold satisfies both hardcore reggae lovers to casual dancehall club fans. It is the only reggae compilation you need whether you live in Kingston or Tokyo!"

Reggae Gold 2006 kicks off with dancehall tracks like Sean Paul's # 1 smash "Temperature," Elephant Man’s "Gangsta Rock," Tony Matterhorn’s "Dutty Wine" and reggae’s newest star, dancer turned artist, Ding Dong with his breakout hit "Bad Man Forward Bad Man Pull Up." Things get deeper with Richie Spice's conscious message on "Youths Dem So Cold" and Tanya Stephens's perspective on "These Streets," the first single from her new album ‘Rebelution’ due in August. The set continues with a lover rock's mood with the latest from crooner Wayne Wonder "I Still Believe" and then with "Baby Tonight" by Bittie McLean. International R&B singer R. Kelly offers some foreign mainstream flavor with his "Slow Wine" (remix) ft. Sean Paul and Akon while other singles such as "Ma Ma" by Gyptian reach out to the core reggae audience, only adding more diversity and range for the Reggae Gold listener. Joel Chin, Director of Artist and Repertoire, believes "The track selection we made this year was first class and Reggae Gold contains all the hits you would want to get. From global #1 hits like Sean Paul’s Temperature to Jamaica's hits, you get it all!"

As an added bonus, there is an exclusive DVD covering the Reggae Gold Live party, behind the scenes footage of the Reggae Gold album cover auditions and photo shoot, as well as music videos from Sean Paul, L.O.C., Assassin, Gyptian and Da’Ville. Hosts Lana Hill and America's Next Top Model Camille take you inside the Reggae Gold Live party, a reggae dance show, featuring live performances by Ding Dong, Assassin, and T.O.K., as well as interviews and fashion segments featuring the fall 2006 Riddim Driven clothing collection. Take an inside look behind the scenes of the Reggae Gold Girl casting call and get up close and personal with the three selected Reggae Gold models. Also, 2 free iPod-ready videos of Ding Dong performing his hit "Badman Forward" live and Assassin's "Everywhere We Go" music video. "The bonus DVD is a big hit in Japan. Japan does not get to see a lot of reggae video and the fans reaction was overwhelming," states James Goring, Senior Product Manager.

TnT Poison MasTnT's Poison Dream Team Born after Dissolution of Poison Band
Posted 07-04-06

June 30th, 2006 -- Michael Headley hands the torch to former section leader Paul Singh.

As they say in entertainment, the show must go on.

During a press conference in Trinidad last week, Michael Headley, the bandleader of Poison announced the band would be ending its 16 year run as one of the leading mas bands for TnT Carnival.

The dissolution of Poison has prompted Paul Singh to create Poison Dream Team. Singh, who has been with Poison for 12 years, and has served as section leader for many years explained, "Poison Dream Team's objective is to raise awareness about Trinidad & Tobago's Carnival, the greatest show on earth, to a new audience who knows very little about our culture."

Assisting Singh in this goal is Earl Beckles of E&J Productions in Far Rockaway, NY, who has been successful in displaying mas in New York's parades, including the recent Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Beckles, along with designer Norman Huggins, have displayed mas in the NY Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Halloween and Chinese New Year Parades, and is eager to promote mas with Poison Dream Team. As Beckles stated, "TnT Carnival is the greatest show on earth and Poison was one of the greatest bands. I'm excited to push mas and Carnival on such a big level."

Michael Headley, in full support of Singh and the Dream Team added, "Poison's motto was We Have More Fun. I wanted for section leaders with the same vision, to create their own bands." Singh and the Dream Team committee will be presenting a mas band of the same name which will officially launch in July 2006.

As Headley stated, "At the end of the day, people expect to play mas with a great band and have a good time."

In a Collective Series Documenting Producer King Jammy’s Lifetime Dedication to Music

Posted 05-05-06

April 27th, 2006- Jamaica, NY- VP Records, in collaboration with King Jammy’s Sound, has announced the release of the most comprehensive retrospect of the legendary sound that triggered digital reggae music, commonly referred to as dancehall. Two compilations paying tribute to King Jammy’s will be released in 2006 that will include: international hits, unreleased tracks from King Jammy’s archives, deep cuts and rare behind the scenes footage.

Recently, there has been a massive resurgence of digital “throwback” riddims, so the timing could not have been more precise for this original collection to be released. From the reappearance of the “Father Jungle Rock” riddim in the Fugee’s reunion at the 2005 BET Awards and also on I-Wayne’s hit “Can’t Satisfy Her,” to the popular "85" riddim featuring deejays like Assassin and Cham, to Ini Kamoze & Sly and Robbie’s “World A Reggae” riddim resurrected by Damien Marley in “Welcome to Jamrock,” to the famous "Sleng Teng Resurrection" revived by Bounty Killer and original vocalist Wayne Smith to the restoration of Admiral Bailey’s "Punany" on the current “Capital P” VP Riddim Driven Series, the presence of these classic rhythms prevail today.

On July 18th, the first release ‘King at The Controls,’ a DVD and compact disc collection, will unveil twenty of King Jammy's most acclaimed tracks as well as exclusive behind the scenes footage. The musical set highlights the celebrated classics and gives you a taste of the highly anticipated ‘Selector’s Choice’ dual box set due out this fall. A few renowned tunes to look forward to are, "Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith, "Music Lover" by Shabba Ranks, "Punany" by Admiral Bailey, "Agony" by Pinchers and "Mr. Landlord" by Half Pint. The bonus DVD includes the first in depth documentary on King Jammy with exclusive interviews from Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Chaka Demus, Admiral Bailey, Wayne Smith (from Sleng Teng), and the King himself! It also includes never seen before historical footage from the Waterhouse community, Ninja Man’s recording sessions inside Jammy’s studio, as well as photos and live footage from King Jammy’s personal archives.

The second release, ‘Selector’s Choice,’ will be a dual release of two 4-disc box sets coming this October. It will be the most all-inclusive tribute ever paid to the legendary producer, who sparked reggae’s digital revolution, revealing the rest of his most cherished and prized hits along with some hidden gems that have been preserved until now. This full collection will give the listener an enjoyable and educational journey into one studio's lifetime dedication and contribution to a crucial era of dancehall reggae.

Shurwayne Winchester will be the first artiste from Trinidad & Tobago to host an entire day on the US cable channel BET J.

Some weeks ago BET JAZZ changed their name to BET J and rebranded their entire Saturday as Island Lime where the content is soley Caribbean. 'The idea is to have artistes from the Caribbean share a bit of their island or lifestyle throughout the day with 30-second wraps, in between Caribbean progammes' says CEO E-Zone Entertainment Lisa Wickham. According to Cybelle Brown, Vice President, Sales & Marketing BET J, "BET J recognises the talent that exists in the Caribbean. Although it's just a start, with the Saturday Island Lime we expect to expose as many artistes as possible to the 23 million homes in which BET J is seen."

The dynamic team of E-Zone Entertainment/Militainment was selected to shoot the 'wraps' throughout the Caribbean. "It makes sense because with the E-Zone show we travel throughout the islands and know most of the artistes anyway," says Wickham. Tune in to BET J this Saturday April 21 to see Winchester on location in Tobago, throughout the entire day.

E-Zone Season Finale Filmed in GermanyE-Zone Season Finale Filmed in Germany
Posted 04-14-06

The E-Zone, the TV show that is known for featuring the people and places of the Caribbean recently returned from a visit to the little German town that will host the T&T Soca Warriors for their first two weeks.

The team which comprised E-Zone Producer/Presenter Lisa Wickham, Presenter Jason Williams and Militainment's Sheldon "FleXXX" Felix and Dane "Stain" Phillip was able to capture the excitement that has taken over the German town of Rotenburg, while Germany's #1 News Team Spiegel TV was able to capture them at work. E-Zone and Militainment have been making waves across the region with their mind-blowing music videos, advertisements and television programmes for over a year now.

"We were really surprised to see the response from the Germans in Rotenburg. There are over 100 T&T flags on display in the town. Mugs, buttons, scarves and tee shits are everywhere," says Show Producer/Presenter Lisa Wickham. One gas station is offering 50% discount on the car wash services to anyone sporting a T&T Tee Shirt. Trinidadians can swim free at the Ronolulu fun swimming park and there are even cocktails at a local restaurant that bear names like Soca Warriors Green, Port of Spain, Tobago Sunrise and San Fernando.

The Information Bureau in the City Hall of Rotenburg is chartering coaches to take persons from Rotenburg to the game in Dortmund to support the Warriors. While this is meant for German supporters they are sure that there will be Trinis who will want the service as well.

There is so much hype in Germany about the smallest country in the world to ever qualify for the World Cup that Spiegel TV, Germany's # 1 Sunday night news magazine show assigned a crew to follow the team around for an entire day and produce a documentary which was aired on Sunday April 10. "The response was tremendous" said co-presenter Jason Williams "We even had our own paparazzi". Two independent camera crews and journalists flocked the E-Zone & Militainment team to cover them at work as they moved around the town.

As a result the crew received a full two page spread in the Rotenburg Journal along with a number of other activities planned for the World Cup.

E-Zone Season Finale Filmed in GermanyMost of the information on Trinidad & Tobago, the Germans pulled for themselves off the Internet and school children have been set to do projects on Trinidad & Tobago. "They can't get enough of Trinidad & Tobago" says Sheldon Felix of Militainment. "And everyone wants to just shower us with presents just to show their support for our team." Throughout the trip, the crew was showered with gifts from vintage footballs, to Germany Team tee-shirts, Trinidad & Tobago scarves, paintings, liqueurs and a host of other T&T paraphernalia.

In addition to visiting and shooting the Wachtel Hof, the five star superior hotel in which the Soca Warriors will stay, the crew filmed on the training grounds on which the team will practice as well as in the Stadium in Dortmund in which the team will play their first game against Sweden. "According to our German colleagues, it was an honour for us to be in the Stadium all by ourselves, since many Germans never get to see inside the stadium unless they were at a game," says Wickham.

Many Rotenburgers had never heard of Trinidad and Tobago before the game. "Now they are eager to learn as much as they can. Some have already planned their vacation for next year to Tobago." she added. "The only down side was that they were disappointed by the information they read on the newspapers about the crime, so they don't read them anymore, at least this is what they told us." she said.

E-Zone will produce a 1-hour special as the Season finale for Season 6 will air on TV 6 later this month. It will then be aired throughout the Caribbean as a Pre-Season 6 special. "I want them to see it before the World Cup so that they can see the love that T&T is receiving in Germany." says Wickham. E-Zone is aired in over 17 countries in the region with over 2 million viewers. It premiered in the British Virgin Islands two Saturdays ago.
