The night before we were in University Fete, Eyes Wide Shut & Carnival Cooler Block Party, so you know it was a quick pit-stop for some swim trunks, then straight to the beach to wash off the effects of Mr. Johnny Walker and friends. What a beautiful Sunday morning... cloudless skies, a gentle breeze and the sound of crashing waves. We couldn't imagine a better way to spend a Sunday morning in South Florida than on the beach.

What made the plan even better was the fact that Broward Carnival would be the Carnival of choice for this particular TJJ crew. Wash off the salt, Sunday lunch with some friends and family and it was of to Pompino Harness Race Track. TJJ arrived on the scene about 4pm and the dance was already ram - quite impressive for a Carnival only in its third year. We worked our way from the spectator entrance all the way out the park, to the last band on the road as they made their way into the park. There was a very nice mixture of costume bands following “big trucks”, and quite a number of steel bands as well, playin' some wicked renditions of tunes like Johhny King's “Darlin”. We get some nice 'chip' behind dem steel bands. The last band entered the park around 7:30pm and then it was a few meters walk to the car park for the stage show action.

It was a nice line up of entertainers, with performances by the Mighty Sparrow, Roger George, Burning Flames, Bunji Garlin and his Asylum band, Maximus Dan, Byron Lee, Leon Coldero and Code 868. The crowd was huge and watched over by an elevated Broward County Sheriff booth. We are happy to report that we didn't see a single incident for the entire day. Our Caribbean people did us proud once again!! This Carnival is still very young, but well organized and has a lot of potential. We are definitely looking forward to next year!
