Peoples, it was the eve of Independence in sweet T&T and the jam "Represent" was the place to be. As Slaughter say, "Anything meh say must rhyme with an O... big up to Trinidad & Tobago!" ISLANDpeople again showed why they are such successful party promoters. From the time we hit the front door the festive atmosphere was evident with the whole ISLANDpeople crew decked out in the national colours. Talk about the cream of the crop, everywhere yuh turn there was a beautiful woman passing by. It was the sort of night where yuh better not bring sand to the beach or things could get real sticky! We actually ketch a few fells being sternly reprimanded for gaping a lil too long, but who could blame them???!! ;-)

Leave it to ISLANDpeople to make things different. Every fete you go to these days, there are screens so that all the people in the back could be in tune with the stage performances. Well folks, ISLANDPeople surrounded the screen with a map of Trinidad that had a few people asking "where the hell they get a screen shaped like Trinidad from?" That could have been the alcohol talking... who knows! We mean it was 2 4 1 drinks all nite long and people looked like they definitely came out to enjoy themselves.

At about half past one stage activity began. J. Williams of Red 96.7FM introduced the rhythm section that was formally gonna get the party started independence style. They put the entire crowd to stand at attention when they buss de big tune for the night. Let's see who guessed this one right... yes indeed, the National Anthem! Shortly after, a display of fireworks graced the sky. Next up on stage was Imij and Co. They gave a very credible performance and had the crowd really waving their represent flags, which were given to patrons upon entry.

Our hats go off to Hypa Hoppa on the night. Imagine Hoppy get people to form a conga line and chip around the deck in Pier 1 conga style!!! He also played some back in times soca that made a brother reminisce for a minute, but as soon as a couple of smallies passed by, that was that. Time to wine again! Well at half past four, we decided to leave the dance, and even at this time the masses were still representing for the Red, White and Black. Large up Machel Montano & Brian Lara on de inside.

Happy 43rd Anniversary to all Trinidad & Tobago massive wherever you are. And remember, no matter which direction life takes you, always be sure to Represent!
