Okay,
so if you thought page one had some juicy stuff... we have more installed
for you! Traffik was done performing not too long after the first band
parade of costumes... yes... we did say first band... more sexy costumes
to come from Marlon Singh's Callaloo! So, TJJ decide to hit backstage
to catch up with we Soca crew while the Asylum band set up on stage.
Backstage
was crrrraaazzzy! You had your entertainers, promoters, media, DJs, Band
leaders and the best part of it all... all de ladies running around in
their sexy and exotic costumes! It's good to be backstage! :-)
We
quickly caught up with everyone and took a picture or two for you all
to see what was going down behind the scenes. Bunji, Shurwayne
and Edwin... large up every time! Candy (Hoyte) and Patrice
(Roberts)... stay sweet! And a very special mention to our homegirl, Gailann,
the original "Look me in the eye when yuh wining!" Be sure to
look out for TJJ's Interview with Gailann.
The
Showdown continued when the hot ladies of 2004 Caribana Champion Marlon
Singh's Callaloo hit the stage to present their 2005 Caribana "Persian
Masqueraders." One word, "Woweee!" (Photos of models
are grouped together on this page). Models moved a little too fast on
stage, giving the crowd a really quick glimpse of what to expect on the
road. We tell you, this year's Caribana will be pure niceness. Lock down
your costume... doh stick!
At
about 3am, the second carded big band outta Trinidad, Bunji Garlin
and the Asylum crew blessed the stage. As excited as the crowd was
to see Bunji, you could see that they were a little restless from the
wait between bands. Not to mention that most performances usually finish
at the KoolHaus around 3am... so we did see some patrons heading to the
exit, leaving Bunji to entertain the "Soca diehards." This was
the only real downside to the night... oh yeah, the drums were literally
destroyed during Asylum's performance... but this didn't stop the drummer
from using what was left standing! In any case, Bunji, D'Original
Fire Chief, brought the fire storm to Toronto with a great performance.
Patrice Roberts added an extra spark to the crowd with hit tune
"The Islands" and Gailann, Ninja and Scarface
added more positive energy to the show. "Baccccaaaa... Baccccaaaa...
Bacccccaaaannal... Carni....Carniiiiii.... Carniiiiivaaaal..." Pure
wickedness! They also gave the crowd a little "Snake Oil" wining
contest... big up to de winner and new friend of the Jungle. We love it
when you reach on de main stage! :-)
Everything
wrapped up after 4am, and the staff of the KoolHaus wasted no time in
getting everyone out of the building. Big respect to Higher Image for
a great event filled with great performances and entertainment. We hoping
to have some video footage from this event... but no promises... better
late then never right! PS. Someone at the Corn Soup stand still asking
where Iwer George???!!!
