Mid week niceness inna Stockholm

TJJ headed out in Stockholm to see if there was anything to do for a proper party animal, which means out on Tues, Wed, and Thurs. Tuesday was reeeal dead (it startin to get to minus now) but it turned out that there would be a couple things going on that should warm us up for the weekend.

On Wednesday 29th was another edition of Vibes46 presents @ Göta Källeren, with DJs like Aphex Sound with Keon from Trinidad ripping the mic on the reggae/dancehall floor, also featuring Million Styles and Niceness. On the Hip Hop/RnB floor there was Sweek, DJ Dash and DJ Crona. With the last couple Vibes46 events being well criss, expectations were high. As usual we get there early but the crowd didn't start pulling in till twelve, and they were up for the vibes, smiles and wukin waistlines all round as the heads that had been prepping in the cheaper bars came rolling through ready to fete. Soon the live performances started, with Lazee hitting the mic and promoting his new video on MTV and Tristes Tigres performing their new single "Poco A Poco". By then the vibes was nice and everybody was having ah whale of a time and then just like that, three o'clock, party done, time really passes fast when you havin fun!! We have to big up Yasmin and Fredrick from Vibes46.com (make sure and have a listen), Keon, and the other DJ's and entertainers that came out to give us our midweek choon fix.

On Thursday thepage.se (Sweden's Urban Events online guide) hosted The Hot Spot @ Moatje, which is close to the Central Station and one of the only open Mc Donalds for late night munchies (nutting like corn soup or a hot doubles, don't even think about it). Thepage.se is warming up for the launch of The Mansion Chapter 2, and they came out to support them to the fullest. Moatje is a nice venue, divided into three almost equal spaces; chill out lounge, dancefloor/stage, and bar area for the circular bar. Drinks were average price, 84kr for a rum n red bull, under 55kr for beer and wine. DJ Preview dusted off some long time RnB classics to warm the dance up till the witching hour, then kicked up a whole heap of dust, blazing new hip hop, grime and dancehall to get the club ready for the highlight of the night, which was live performances from Lazeeand Mapei.

Lazee (who's first video is out on MTV Europe this weekend), tore up the mic, rappin freestyle over Hip Hop and Drum and Bass beats. He showed why he's on MTV, flowing seamlessly over changing, scratched upbeats while the crowd went wild. Lazee shared the mic on this night with Mapei, who I think is one of the ill-est freestyle rappers (male or female), I've ever heard... I shite you not!! When I popped my flash for a close up, she just carried on "BLAW, lights in my eye, cameras gonna take me to the sky", and on and on she went on, this pint sized browning carrying on, no beat, no riddim, no breakdown stopped her flow, and that stage definitely wasn't big enough for her. After the freestyle was over, there was so much energy in that place, not one leg was still, and people didn't think about leaving till the last song had played and the lights were on. Thanks to Samir and thepage.se team, Lazee and Mapei for making what seemed like a normal "Urban Lounge Night" into something really special.
