When you have two big name DJs in NY promoting a 'back in times' fete with some of the biggest names in the DJ business from the 80s along with a live performance by Noel in the mix.... you know dance go be nice! And when dance nice, you know Trini Jungle Juice must reach! So what we working with...

THE PROMOTERS: DJ Back to Basics and Foreign Bass. These DJs not only have NY on lock, but know their music... and more important, know how to play the right selections!

THE CONCEPT: "Remember The Times... The Return to Atlantis Upper Level". If your memory stickin', let us remind you. Who remember the TV dance show 'Party Time'? Who remember de dance... 'The Slide'? Who remember when groups and artists like Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, New Edition, Soul II Soul, Expose, Black Box, Janet Jackson, Al B Sure, Noel and Prince music would mash up any dance! Those were the days!! Whaaaat.... Crystal Waters big tune "Gypsy Woman" would have an entire dance clapping their hands as they sang "La Da Dee... La Dee Da ... La Da Dee... La Dee Da".

THE CAST: Trinidad DJs Teddy Mohammed (Atlantis Resident House DJ 1992 & 1993), Bryan Regis (Atlantis Resident House DJ 1984 to 1987), Rennie B (The Ice Man, The Nice Man) and the Massive Dr. Hyde (Dancehall King of the 80s and 90s). New York DJs Back to Basics and Foreign Bass. And a live performance by Noel himself, performing his 80's hits "Silent Morning" and "Like A Child".

THE REVIEW: Our destination is Club Velocity in the heart of Coney Island. We reach just after midnight, and there's already ah line up to get in. Now, we cannot tell ya de last time we join de regular line at an event, but we decided to wait with some friends, who were waiting on their peoples to arrive. This actually gave us a taste of the stories regular patrons face. Lots of security to search people down, but like they needed more women security as men were getting through faster than the ladies. Now from the looks of things, the club's security was just not as efficient as could be with filing people into the club. We actually stood in line from about 12:30AM to 1:00AM, and understand that this was actually no where close to some of the horror stories folks faced as the night passed. The main complaint from partygoers for the night was the issues with getting into the party, whereby both ticket and non-tickets holders complained to us of the drama they dealt with, some having to wait in line for 1-2 hours (in de cold too) before seeing coat check. Yikes!

Okay, on to the entertainment. First of the four Trini DJs to touch the set was TEDDY MOHAMMED. All dressed up in a suit, he didn't wait fuh even a minute before taking folks down memory lane as host BIG C controlled the mic. The man selections still on point and mixes smooth, smooth. Teddy gave folks a nice back in times disco/house set and even played a short back in times dub session. And you know de mixmaster champ had to buss some new styles with the old, playing Isaac Blackman's "To The Ceiling". Big C, can we get ah pppppuuuuulllll up!!! Next up, BRYAN REGIS. At this point we in de crowd taking some flicks and braaaaaaps...... one of our personal favorites, Company B's "Full Circle" drop. Who remember de lyrics? "I got some love for you, just tell me you want it.... I got a kiss for you, put your lips on it..." Boooooooy, men pore raised yes! Another tune that make us remember the times on the night was Aswad ft Sweetie Irie's "On & On". It was nice to see everyone sing the lyrics... felt like we were back at Bedrock! Yes Bedrock, that was Coconuts waaaaaaaay back in the days. Who remember Wall Street in Roundabout Plaza??!!! Memory lane, yes!

It's about 3AM, and on the stage comes NOEL. "Hear me girl... you got me walking in the dark... I got a feeling that my heart is just your game...." Real memories, yes! After performing "Like A Child", he tried to wake up the crowd by telling them about his past concerts in Trini and how he felt more love back then. Although the ladies to the front of the stage were loving his performance, most of the crowd was just nonchalant taking in his act. Noel then proceeded to perform another one of his tunes, when midway an unidentified flying object flew from the crowd over the stage. Wow... looked like a bottle to us. Not cool. Looks like someone wasn't appreciating Noel's ole school dance moves!!! After seeing this, the promoters were smart to cut Noel's performance short moving to his final and BIG track.... "Silent Morning". The crowd definitely woke up as the first beat dropped... but we still ent see no one buss out "the slide"!! :-) Noel thanked the crowd and promoters for having him... biggin' up FOREIGN BASS who was getting ready to continue the dance with RENNIE B. Rennie B voice still as smooth as when he was at his prime. Okay, time to take a couple more flicks... dance ram. Large up Soca artist Jamsey P on the inside.

Fete scheduled to finish at 4AM and Dr. Hyde ent play yet??!! Pressure. At about 3:45AM, the MASSIVE DR. HYDE bless de 1s and 2s. And all we have to say is de man buss de dance!!! If our memory is right, his first tune was Lovindeer's "Babylon Boops", and in true Hyde fashion, he had to let New York know he was in the session by bussin' ah "Dooooooctor Hyyyyyydddde!!!!!' Real back in times dub chune buss one after the other as the crowd consistently showed signal with their two hands up, and your crews at the back jumpin' up in de air. Dr. Hyde played until about 4:30AM before BACK TO BASICS came on to carry people party spirits on to the last tune. Dance was nice, so nice that Dr. Hyde even came back to drop a few tunes with Back to Basics as they played a kinda tune for tune set. Hyde's last tune and message to the crowd was "Life is what you make it" as he dropped big, big chune "Raggamuffin Love".

5AM.... time to ride out yes. But from the looks of things, it taking people the same amount a time to leave as it did to get in. :-) We did manage to talk with one of the promoters at the end of the night, who explained that they did everything in their power to get people inside the club faster, but the club's management insisted on doing things their way. They actually apologized to partygoers, saying that they will continue to learn and do things better as they grow and try new things. The club's management did their best to make up for the slow line by allowing the party to go until 5AM instead of the scheduled 4AM shut off. Special thanks to Back to Basics and Foreign Bass for inviting us to travel down memory lane.

Who going Red Eye's Appreciation party on Sat Dec 2nd at Studio B?? We know Peter Ram will be there!!!
