It's Saturday the 15th of July and what a night it's going to be. TJJ was trying to put all hands on deck because the night was young and the festivities many. One of our stops... the 2nd Annual Soca For Summer, popularly advertised as "The King Kong of Concerts." Held at the Queen's Park Savannah, this event kicked off quite early because of its huge line up of 6 big bands, 5 local reggae acts and 28 artistes.

Promptly taking to the stage at 8 PM for the first time ever in the soca capital was the band Orange Sky. Their performance was quite a good one with plenty of vibes, enough to even captivate the small masses that they performed to being that they were the first band in the night's line up. Tony Prescott with band Surface was next to hit the stage. They managed to entice the scattered crowd to come up front which started to make the soca concert a bit more lively. During their performance, they also made way for the group Surge who really came out of the wood work during this year's Carnival season making quite a name for themselves with their hit "In Your Timing Girl."

Imij And Co. was next to perform, and they delivered a rather creative and versatile performance which really delighted feters. Big up to Ghetto Flex, Michelle X and Russell ... we wha a "Big Buttom Gal" to wine up on!! ;-) The sweet voices of the group H2o Phlo was heard next. Female fans in the audience also made their voices heard too as they screamed in overwhelming support and love for these guys. The winner of Synergy's Soca Star contest took the stage next. Known for hitting some really high notes during his performance, Fireball took to the spotlight and did what he does best. He made way for Knycky Cordner who gave a brief performance with the highlight being her 2005 hit song "Wet Meh."

Upcoming local reggae artist, Simple, was featured next before giving way to Bunji Garlin & the Asylum band with Ninjitsu, Scarface and Faye Ann Lyons. The unforgettable moment of this band’s performance is not really the songs that they performed, but actually was when Bunji got down on one knee and proposed to Faye Ann. Not only was this a moment to remember, but folks if you all see the size of that rock Bunji put on Faye Ann's finger!! Big congrats to Bunji & Faye Ann from the entire Trini Jungle Juice family ... wishing you guys all the best!

After that the night went by kinda fast. Vincy star, Kevin Lyttle made an appearance doing his 2005/2006 release and one of our personal favorites "Home For Carnival." Lil Bitts, now called "Bitts" also performed, stepping out in apparel suited towards her new look ... a more conservative and classy style. We did remember KMC with his band Red, White and Black coming on to perform. The band also hosted soca stars Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon and the man behind it all, Mr. Neil Iwer George, who all made their contributions to soca music, performing their hearts out to the thousands that were present. Trini Bashment keep up the great work.

Well folks with much hesitation we had to head on out. Like we said, it was a night full of activities and TJJ was on de move. From de concert capital, we heading north. Santa Cruz that is, for ISLANDpeople’s Caution.
