So it's 6.30AM, as in it's damn early in the morning and the TJJ crew is up and about, though still very groggy. What kinda fete getting we up at this hour? Well not today, this time we heading out to a different kind of event, a first for the TJJ crew. We going to the first Caribbean Professionals Association Golf Classic here in South FL. We are Tiger Woods!!! A quick look up at the heavens to see if it was going to be a good day to play some golf! We had rain all night before and it wasn't looking good for the tournament the next day. Lo and behold, clear blue skies and not a cloud in sight! With that we headed down to the beautiful Orangebrook Golf and Country Club in Hollywood, Florida where the Caribbean Professionals Association hosted their 1st Annual Golf Classic.

As we arrived to the registration table, we were pleasantly surprised to find a gift bag full with goodies from the main sponsors and an easy registration process. All the teams were checking in at the table, and then everyone loaded up in their carts and were ready to golf. We were given a welcome by one of the PGA professionals at the course welcoming us and outlining some of the rules. The tournament started @ 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. There were nine teams with 4 persons per team; a pretty good turnout for a first time event of this nature. Who know so many Caribbean men were hitting the links on a regular basis. No disrespect to the lone female entry Elisa, Caribbean people.

As the tournament went on and TJJ made it's way from team to team - from hole to hole - snapping photos. We could tell that everyone was enjoying themselves. Some were taking this tournament quite serious, others were blaming their errant shots on the glare of the paparazzi... yeah right! It was unanimous that this was a well organized event and a first in the Caribbean community in South Florida. As the teams finished, they were ushered in for a tasty buffet style lunch and the awards ceremony.

Host and organizer of the tournament, Dustin Cameron got proceedings underway with a prize for the most original shot. Dean Lindo walked away with that prize after amazingly shooting for the wrong green - next time we walking with a video camera. Prize for best team name went to Team Slicers, Need Hookers and best dressed went to Joseph Singh.

Before the main prizes were distributed, the Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Gerard Greene, was then recognized for his support of the tournament. 3rd place was presented by Dr. Blaine Cameron, CEO of BCMD Pain Management to the team that included the Consul General. 2nd place went to High Top Fades and this prize was sponsored by the Law Offices of Stephen Cameron. 1st place went to Rum Jumbies, and their prize was sponsored by Ezone Internet shopping delivery.

We got to give a special mention to all the Caribbean businesses that sponsored prizes, Ezone Internet Shopping delivery, BCMD Pain Management, The Law Offices of Stephen Cameron, Bilmor, with advertising specialties, Goldson Spine Rehabilitation Center and Airojet Charters. It was a great event and we hope to cover more events of this type in our community.
