On a night when a certain band launch was thought to be the place to be, this Jungle Juicer had one event on his mind.... Mango Republic's "Jus like Jouvert Cart & Cooler Jam".

The customary drive from San Fernando to Port-of-Spain was a gentle breeze compared to the hurricane force $20 fee I was greeted with upon parking at the Woodbrook Youth Facility (and I almost swear the attendant told me his name was Dean... lol). Without even being tempted to venture to ISLANDpeople's neighbouring 2k8 Band Launch, I stepped in to the dance minutes before midnight and started "working".

The layout of the party was simple... a spacious area for the crowd to more than enjoy themselves with the tray of a "Big Truck" at the front fully loaded for musical entertainment, a well sized bar to the left and the restrooms to the right.

Now for those who aren't familiar with the concept of a "Cooler Fete" this is an event where you avoid being burnt by the prices at the bar by bringing your own drinks in your cooler. There were coolers of all shapes and sizes; all stocked up with beers, chasers and every brand of hard liquor you could name. By the time we arrived the drinks were already flowing and the atmosphere was festive. The Jouvert aspect of the party was in full swing as various crews of people were already covered in liquid chocolate etc. (Big ups to the sexy ladies of the "Got Mud?" and "Wanna Play?" Crews)

With the soca music moving the crowd, it seemed that Machel Montano's "Jumbie" took on a special significance as two Moko Jumbies appeared and lead the charge "Down D Road". This was no stoosh event and there were more than enough gorgeous ladies wining down to the ground present to satisfy any man's needs.

Around 2am the party took an unexpected turn when the music was stopped and the Red Heat tassa group made their presence felt. The crowd was thrown into a frenzy and a large skin-2-skin congaline was formed. Then some fire breathers showed of their skills to the appreciation of the audience. When the music was put back on; the DJ's for the night High Fidelity/Less Than Zero showed their class and kept the congregation upbeat for the whole night. At about 4am the "Jam" wrapped up and we ended what was an enjoyable night with a final rendition of Tessanne Chin's "Hideaway" which had to be the big chune of the night.

The folks at Mango Republic get kudos for this event as it was largely free flowing and entertaining and we thank them for hosting the TJJ Crew and look forward to their next event.
