60,000 die hard partygoers congregated in the north of Holland for what undoubtedly is the biggest yearly festival in ganja land! People from France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland generally from all over the globe came together for three days of non-stop craziness. Lowlands is known generally as a rock/alternative/underground grimey music festival (very hardcore), and this year big international artists such as Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, Basement Jaxx, Nine Inch Nails and Groove Armada just to name a few were all present to entertain the masses. Various tents scattered over an enormous festival terrain were the stomping ground for each act and this year for the first time in the legacy of Lowlands, there was a Reggae/Dancehall tent where yours truly was invited to spin with my crew Hebalize-it Sound. Ivoryman, Foundation Sound and Journeyman Sound were the other acts with us in the "Reggae Bomb" tent, ordained with the responsibility to mash up d place!

We rolled up into the festival around 11:30 pm on Friday night, an hour late thanks to a faulty navigation system that sent us way way in no-man's land. And if it wasn't for a dude, parked on the side making out with his chick, we would have probably never found our way to the festival...... was funny as hell! So we got up in there and everything was so well organised. Boom Bam, and we inside..... VIP all the way!! Hippies everywhere, like Woodstock reincarnated. Nice vibes, cute chickies and an energy that grabbed you tighter by the throat the further you got into the heart of the festival area. It was Friday night, and the festival had been in full swing the entire day already. Amazing that people still had energy! A quick check to see how late we would be spinnin and nice, there was some time before the set to take a quick gape around the festival and taste the scene. Trini Jungle Juice in the house and it was time to pull out the camera (battery fully loaded mind you... unlike de las mishap for Rotterdam Carnival'07) and grab some quick Kodak moments.

I had one hour to play with but because of the area being so huge it was gonna take some strategic planning (or hard running) to get a glimpse of what was happening in the nearest tent and then get back in time to spin. Basement Jaxx were now winding down their performance as I fought my way through the crowd just to get not even 1 meter past the main entrance. There was so much freaking people!!! Jaxx had now started there last song, one of my favourites and the house erupted! A few nice shots, a cold beer and then it was a hard U-turn back to the "Reggae Bomb" tent.

Amazing, when I got back to the tent, it was full! Never in a hundred years did I expect that these hippies would take so hard to the music! Nice ting fi real!!! And if it's one thing any DJ would tell you, there's nothing better that to spin for an enthusiastic audience, especially one who you wouldn't expect to understand the music! They just keep on dancing no matter what you played! :-) Lovely night, sweet ladies all over, nuff forwards, all in all, a very successful first injection of this kind of music in such a festival. Up to next year cause we deya!
