I guess everyone has one of those days when the surroundings, the people and the entertainment is just right, but it seems every foot forward seems to take you back one step. I was excited to be covering the Miss TnT UK pageant. I envisaged being surrounded by gorgeous intelligent ladies and could not wait to get there. Unfortunately, I had so many difficulties on the night I was unable to enjoy the charms of the ladies that were evident in their smiles and speech, the exquisiteness of the venue and the variety of performances.

Traffic approaching the venue was horrendous. Needless to say, I was late. The venue was the striking Porchester Hall in the lavish and trendy Bayswater area of London. The building was impressive with stone and granite used for the main structure, and an entrance steps to the hall with a plush red carpet, teak woodwork and bronze metal all forming an opulence of detail. But notorious with the area there was no parking available.

The show was carded to begin at 7pm; I arrived at the ticket collection at 9:15PM. **Regrettably, my name was not on the list of media staff so I waited a further 30 minutes before security and ushers allowed me to enter the hall. By this time I had missed a lot of the show; but the show did have a late start. Patrons informed that they were given a warm welcome by Ebony Steelband (www.ebony.org.uk) and girls in carnival costume courtesy of PoisonUK. The hosts were Avni-Joy Bell, Colin Bell and Alafair Celestine - whose stunning dress changes throughout the show where highly noticeable. There were performances by Jahson (www.jahson.co.uk), Soul Logic (www.ebony.org.uk), 'Brown Sugar' dancers, Iris De Brito, Damarys Farres, Cesar Pacheco (www.irisdebrito.com) and Nikisha Reyes-Pile.

The audience was elegantly dressed for the occasion. Many of the ladies in the crowd could have been contestants on the night. The guys in the crowd acknowledged this with beaming smiles all night.

There were long pauses in-between the modeling and entertainment sessions that seemed unscheduled. This prompted an unsatisfactory feeling in the audience that could have been evaded. Also, the hosting party for the evening was not charismatic enough to hold the audience's attention or provide any witty interludes that could have dispelled the empty periods. Angela Cox, the director Carivog International, provided a wonderful twist to the evening by presenting a number of recognition awards and speaking about some of the persons that inspired her to work arduously towards holding the show each year. She commended and presented an award to the honorable Glenda Morean-Phillips the Patron of the event.

Caribbean food was on sale (which of course TJJ had to sample – yummy!), a well stocked bar with Caribbean drinks available and areas were set up for patrons to take pictures of themselves.

The Miss TNT contestants were of course the highlight of the evening. They were charming and beautiful. Standing out through their stage presence, magnetism, crowd appreciation and dress were Sarah Mahabir, Valenee Gosine and Michelle Supersad.

On the stage, there were a few mistakes; noticeably some had their nerves get the better of them. They sometimes walked too fast on stage and did not hold their pose long enough for people to admire their outfits and beauty. Overall, the girls were marvelous. Their originality and glamorous choices in evening dresses added to the show. The judges had their work cut out that night. Among them were the gorgeous former Miss TNT, Crystal Laugier and Andrew Ramroop, owner of Maurice Sedwell Tailors (www.savilerowtailor.com).

The applause and support for the girls on stage was strong. At the end when Miss Valenee Gosine was announced the Miss T&T UK 2007 winner, there were exuberant celebrations. Her evening gown was breathing taking and her glowing smile, charming. The 1st runner up was Miss Jacqueline Baker and 2nd was Miss Sarah Mahabir. The event finish very much past the carded time, however, the new Queen, assuming her role, ensured that everyone was able to congratulate her and take further pictures. It was a fun and delightful evening.
