Bringing back the Kaiso in the Carnival arena today, may be a huge task for any major Carnival organization, since many partygoers go for the highly demanded 'wine and jam' setting. In only its 5th year running, Panyard owner, Seebee, believed that there is an audience that is craving 'De Ole Time Days.' Feeding off his vibrations, Trini Jungle Juice decided to pay a visit to 5th Annual Kaiso Competition, held at De Panyard in Decatur, Georgia.

With the rain threatening to steal the spotlight from the singers, the show was delayed for a couple of hours. Apparently nothing was going to get in the way of this competition as the patrons kept on coming. It was 10:30pm before the first performer took to the stage as compared to the original show time of 7:30pm, and it was to almost a full house.

As the night moved on, the Kaiso lovers were treated to songs of social commentary that either had them laughing like crazy or singing along to the chorus of a tune with a good hook. The artists on that night were all well received. Either way you put it, the Kaiso competition at De Panyard resembled the early days of the Spectakula Forum or the Kaiso House in Trinidad.

The setting was good with a nice laid out stage for the artists to perform and the judges table was situated close by. Even Trinidad comedian & actor Nigel Fabian was ah judge. Allyuh remember dat man?? "Courts You Can at Courts" ... yes people, that Nigel Fabian!

So the competition was good and so were the prizes, with the first prize going to Quako in the amount of $1,000.00 and ah massive trophy. Seebee really organized the Kaiso competition well, remembering to thank his sponsors and patrons alike. The TJJ crew was impressed with the event. We certainly looking forward to going back there for ATL 2009.
