Beach House summer is here! From the time I got the teaser e-mail I was excited, and even though I have been to their Carnival All Inclusive several times, somehow I never manage to be in the country for the summer time edition. Of course, I had great expectations, both from my previous Carnival experiences and the reputation that precedes the fete.

I was thrilled when the early morning torrential downpours in NW T&T let up in the afternoon making it possible for us to enter the party in style. I’m sure every one else who arrived at that time was just as thrilled as the ladies and guys alike were dressed to impress. Beach House is definitely one of those "pretty" parties where no one even dares to come incorrect or scruffy looking. The special atmosphere and out of the way location of the Ortinola Estate in Maracas, St. Joseph demands a bit of extravagance on the partygoers’ part. Of course, as Trini's we know ... just cus you’re dressed to the nines in a long floral garden dress doh mean yuh cah bruck out when the DJ buss a wine out session! smile

Now I would’ve paid the extra for free drinks just to avoid the hassle of chits etc., but nevertheless the bar was well stocked with premium drinks and they were flowing all night long. There were also complimentary samples of Hennessey, Baileys and Battery Energy Drink available on entry, while stocks lasted.

The venue began to fill up closer to sunset as by this time, many fetegoers who were skeptical about the inclement weather, thought the worst was over and decided to venture out of their homes. Well they were wrong! Just around that time the heavens blessed the dance with a good shower. True Trini party animals stood their ground (even though it was a bit muddy) and continued to have a great time wining to Steel Pulse and other foundation reggae tunes, while others sought shelter under the trees and the bar, food and bathroom tents. We even noticed that Beach House staff brought out standing umbrellas to help the situation.

By the time the rain let up, it was night time in earnest and red lights came on in the towering trees creating an almost magical ambiance. You just had to be there to see it! The party got into full swing, as DJ's Jus Jase and XTC pumped retro tunes that the Beach House crowd seemed to love! XTC even obliged to crowd requests for some soca and bashment dancehall and gave them more reason to wine. The revelry at this time was a clear indication that once again the party was a hit, and both Beach House regulars and virgins were having a time! For the record, this was Beach House #8 and as always, TJJ has never failed to show our presence at this fete!!

TeeKay for the TJJ fam
