Tilseltown, also known as Los Angeles California, is known for their larger than life movie stars, their silicon boobs, botox, face lifts (oh sorry!), surfing, skateboarding and of course... Soca! Wait a second ... did I just say Soca? Actually a whole week of it, too! It just sooooo happens that Kes the Band, Maximus Dan, Nadia Batson and Triniti decided to pass through and give us some muuuuch needed Soca transfusion.

The first event of the "Kes Live Tour" (www.keslive.com) was on May 10th, 2008 at The Temple Bar in Santa Monica. A place known for always lining up the gnarliest bands from all corners of the world. (Did I just say gnarly? Dude, like totally!) Well, for a change I actually got to the place on time and I must admit my nervousness for a second, as there were not that many people there, I mean is there enough Soca lovers in the West Coast? Ufff! To my relieve there are ... they were just punctually late!!! smile

I made my way around, taking a few photos and chatting with a few peeps… and to my surprise, lots of them had never been to a Caribbean concert before. They don't even consider themselves as Caribbean music lovers! They were just there to support their artists friends from mySpace, of all places. Some people drove over 50 miles of lovely L.A. traffic, paying over $4.00 a gallon of gas, yeeeap! Now, THAT is love! Aaaaah, the power of the Internet.

While the sound engineers where doing the last sound checks, DJ Pelau (also a long time fren of TJJ) was spinning some sweeeeet tunes! Just the right mixture of Caribbean spices! DJ Pelau, you rrrock, man! For the expert winers, he was serving a warm up, but for the rest... well, it was a warning sign of things to come. Those well behaved gorgeous ladies sipping on their Martinis where NOT going to be well behaved for much longer. And THAT is proper etiquette! Ms. Triniti opened with two female dancers, backed by Kes the Band (minus Kees).

They first came out all covered with boxing robes. While performing in their choreography they took them off sporting a basketball type of shorts and top outfit... but in a cute way. Comfy enough to do the 'dutty wine' on. Aye aye aye! While Triniti performed, you could see Kees and Maximus on the side, waiting for their turn. A bit serious, but always ready to pose for TJJ's camera. smile We luv you too guys!

Triniti changed wardrobe one more time before she left and this time she came out with a dark cat woman type of outfit with glow in the dark details - similar to the ones she was throwing to the crowd. The crowd was loving it... and loving her! It's Kees turn on stage. By this time everybody already broke a sweat and their hips are begging for more... Soca that is!! Hehehehe. Kees energy , confidence on stage and chemistry with his band ignited the place. Ahhhh, we felt like we were back in Trini Carnival.

We found Ms Triniti also enjoying the concert after her performance and a few girls enjoying Kees. I mean... they went on stage to dance for him or with him. Kees gave us just want the doctor ordered... all the hot tunes for 2K8 Carnival and a much needed conscious song ("Lion") to keep us in check with what's real important in life! By the time Kees left the stage, this crowd was not ready to go home. So, thank goodness for Maximus Dan and his oh so deep voice. He had people wining, wukkin' up and singing along to his songs.

Oh, so at the beginning I mentioned all the things that L.A. is mostly known for, but did you know our bars and clubs close at 2AM? Yeeeap! So the "no no we ain't goin' home" song cannot really be sang here, not unless you start singing it at 10PM that is!!! smile After living in Cali for over two years you give up the fight and try enjoy driving back home when it's still dark. The artists on the other hand, were on denial!

Soca in Temple Bar rocked! TJJ enjoyed meeting all of you and hopes to see you again at the next event! Those of you that already knew about us, keep sending the love, and for the newcomers, surf our site a bit more, you'll get addicted to the Caribbean community, I sure am!

Dazzit!
Ciao Tu Amiga, Panidad for my TJJ fam
