Boo! Trick or Treat and all that good stuff. So the old folks may say that we have bought into Americanisms wholesale with this Halloween thing or as it is fondly referred to by many of our fellow countrymen, HOLLOWeen ... lol. In spite of all the implications of cultural imperialism .. yada yada yada .. the bottom line is ... it's fun to dress up in costumes!

So when we got word that Misty Ridge was holding their annual Halloween Bash "Spooked", we couldn’t contain our excitement! After a botched homemade costume experiment last year, we approached this year with renewed vigour and determination, and apparently so did everyone else. There were probably a handful of people not in costume and everyone that dressed up was impressive in their own way. From elaborate Midnight Robber/Vampire/King of the band get ups, to incredible movie character impersonations, the creativity was astounding!

It’s always great to have a change of pace from the club with an exquisite outdoor venue such as the ranch in Santa Cruz. The Misty Ridge committee however took this to a whole different level with their elaborate decorations. The ambiance is definitely a selling point for this event as you can’t help but be impressed when you enter a party and have to stop every two seconds to be awed and entertained by the décor. There were cackling witches, headless corpses and skeletons strewn about a cemetery, recreations of demonic murder scenes and even a ghoul filled classroom. Plenty kicks for sure. And of course, while we were gaping at the props, random serial killer dudes were sneaking up on us with bloody hatchets just to make sure we were legitimately spooked!

The party was already packed by the time we got inside and the crowd was in good spirits (hehehe). Then again, you can’t help but be in a good mood when you’re surrounded by folks in ridiculous get ups. No doubt the crowd was fuelled by liquid courage courtesy of the well stocked (although a little small and understaffed) bar, and the bottle only bar which was a great idea for the big crews. The vibe was great and the DJs including Linx of Red 96.7FM kept us wining whole night. The music only stopped for the live entertainment by Squeezy Rankin who performed his hit “Rainy Weather” and the hilarious costume competition hosted by media personality J.W. (Jason Williams). Other than that, it was straight tunes right up to the point where Super Jigga TC and DJ Dane nearly got arrested for trying to give us a lil' more wining time. Thanks guys we appreciated the risk!

Teekay for the TJJ Fam.
