The Return of the Donkey

We hear dey having de second Annual 90's fete (The Ultimate Retro Party) where dey play all kinda hits from de 90s ... Soca, Reggae & even Hip Hop. Now we have been to 70's & 80's theme fetes but never 90's, so you know we hadda check it out.

We reach the venue (Station 9) before midnight and were pleased to see a well organized Caribbean fete. Greeted by the door and being led in to de fete by ah real attractive bouncer set the stage for a well planned and enjoyable lime. Here is the thing though, I am still amazed that after living in DC for so long, Caribbean folks STILL like to come to fete after midnight, as if they have a secret pact with DC police to keep their fete going past 2 in the morning (ok 2:30am with the grace period ... hehe).

Anyway, we on de inside, circling de place, and scoping out de crowd. We were quite happy to see a nice mix of hot men & women, all ready to get on bad. Well let me tell you, this Jungle Juicer placed herself in a prime vantage point to take in all the vibes.

Mystic Vibes 6.0 and Nemesis did a great job of bringing back good memories of the 90's. With Mystic Vibes taking us back to "Faluma" ding dinging, and Beenie Man making you hold one tile on the dance floor ... there was no doubt we were in for ah time. The dance floor was packed and waists were pelting in every direction. As I looked up from my "woah donkey" position, ah couldn’t help but notice all kinda women and men sucking on lollipops while taking ah wine ... not far away were ladies going around passing out an assortment of sweet treats. Yes, red lollipop for meh sweet tooth please and thank yuh. Ok, now back to de donkey ... smile. It's been at least 15 years since I last did the donkey dance, so I was surprised that it came back to me so naturally. I guess its like riding a bike... yuh neva forget!

And so de feting continued till dey shut us down! Ah tell yuh, dis is ah fete dat keeps giving cos before we left we all were given mixed CDs to take home ... Noiiiiiiiiice!

We giving dis one a definite thumbs up! Thanks Hector, Alex & Rosa for the luv, we had a blast! We not missing your next fete ... who say DC Carnival Thursday?
