The Power of a good Cooler Fete

The ride to the venue seemed to take quite sometime .... getting around this island is no joke. Think they need Obama for this traffic problem??? On the other hand, it could have been that we felt like we were in the car forever because we were late ... anxiety and excitement kicking in!!!! We need to get there, but we have no idea where the party is!!!???

Eventually, we pulled into the neighborhood. Driving around seeing all the cars and people in the streets, it looked like someone was having a block party. All we could hear was the bass from the speakers. We drove around the masses to look for a place to park. Cars were crammed up and down the street. For some reason it looked like there would be tons of spaces but a closer examination revealed that there were these gaping holes between the cars on the side walks. People should watch out because someone might fall into one of those holes! smile We eventually found a spot.. way down at the end of one of those long blocks.

Trekking up to the party we got a vision - a full vision - the large crowd that was still hanging outside the party location. Was it possible that we can probably have just as much fun on the outside as on the inside? Uhmm?? We were wrong!!!! We quickly acquired two tickets which, with much thanks to the "Soca scalpers" was easy enough. As we walked into the party.. wetness .... the rain start to pour. One of the crew being a "glass half full" type person, considered our luck good at this point. This wasn't a light drizzle, but more of an outside shower as everyone ran for cover between the food and drink tents. Once protected from the tropical depression, our eyes adjusted to the rest of the party, and we observed scores of go-hard partiers still moving to the music. Turns out that there's a strong bond between a man and his cooler that the rain just can't break!! smile After about 10 minutes, the rain stopped and the party resumed into full swing. Everyone in the party looked like they had just gotten out of the shower with their clothes on!! For some people, this was a really hot look; others not so much. I'm glad I didn't wear those white pants, yes!!!

Our ultimate plan was to find friends with a large selection of coolers to wine & gyrate, talk some tootle-bay nonsense, and listen to the Soca pounding from the speakers. With that in mind, we definitely found the cooler with the bessss stash of drinks and the DJ definitely supplied ALL the Soca hits!! Score!!! Everyone was dancing and having a great time, which appeared to be a byproduct of having your own personal bar at your feet. smile We also witnessed a few accidents; also because of said bar at your feet. Drinking from said bar impairs your ability to recall where said bar is (or where other's said bars are). People kept falling over the coolers. Best advice.... look down when walking around a cooler fete, otherwise you will end up face down!!

There was a live performance by Skinny Fabulous, and in this fete the responses to "Head Bad" was extremely resounding. Good times.... toward the end of the night the DJ did his own competition of who should win Road March'09. Our cheers for Destra's "Bacchanal" seemed to tip the scale. Then the DJ announced the winner, and we all "Met Super Blue." As the DJ shut down the music, the tassa drummers began to play .... so much better than cops or bouncers escorting you out!! The crowd moved from the front of the stage to the back of the fete to better listen, with a few last stragglers still dancing.

All in all, it was a great party, even with the rain delay. Definitely a party that TJJ will be at next year .... this time we coming with our own cooler!! Who say we teef ah fridge and pack it up with ice and some alcohol? Any takers?

Looking for a ole fridge for next year,
Alicia reppin' for the TJJ DC family
