Berlin Carnival is here again and like Iwer say, "We Ready" x 100! Icon, one of my favourite venues in Berlin is the chosen place to start off all the bacchanal that would no doubt take place throughout the course of this weekend. The party was advertised as being the official jump off to all the festivities, and as I understand, has a legacy for being just this.

Tonight the notoriously famous Soca Twins would be hosting the thing, with special special guest flown in from the USA, no other than the soca remix king, Tony Tempo. Oh yes, it should be a night to remember full of big tunes, crazy vibes and hopefully plenty nice ladies. Berlin has never failed to deliver, so bring it on!

On advice from my doctor to take some rest and recover from some minor throat surgery, I packed some things in a plastic bag and hopped on a train to Berlin for the ultimate recuperation! Cause like Chooks done say, "D1 you're a true carnival peong yes." There was no way I was missing this!! smile

So I pull up in the dance solo and undercover. Baseball cap low, order my first cola (no alcohol this weekend, freaking antibiotics) and I sneaky in a corner observing the vibes. The place not ram, but there were enough people to make a nice party and this is exactly what Tony Tempo was doing. He understood what the people wanted to hear and gave them just that. It was hot and I was glad that the place wasn't more crowded. Enough nice woman, plenty jumping and waving ... so the thing set nice and we very pleased. A crew from the UK were running things on the dancefloor and fuss dem girls could wine! My oh my! What always seems to surprise me though, no matter how often I see it, is the huge number of Trini supporters at these parties. Non-Trinis decked out in red, white and black outfits or at least had something on them to represent Trinidad. Mimicking the words to the tunes with exact skill and responding to the call of action. Bring tears to yuh eyes!

Soca Twins took over and brought their famous energy to the thing. Boone and Frankie were ready for carnival as this was clear to see by the enthusiasm and big smiles on the faces of the Berlin boys. And this exact attitude was what you felt at this particular party. People were in true carnival mode. Tony Tempo took over again and was now running some groovy soca and oldies. My ting! The UK crew appreciated this and made it vocally known, much to the appreciation of the DJ. We partied with measure, saving some energy for the days ahead cause its all about pacing yuhself.

I left the dance feeling eager for what was to come but yet relaxed and satisfied. It was a good night and Berlin has delivered and kept true to her carnival persona. There has been pleasing growth here. Only question is, how much?! The upcoming days would definitely give us an answer.
