So, with the return
of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. for their 3rd season being eagerly awaited and
anticipated; the theme for the first party F.R.I.E.N.D.S. with Benefits
also had many married men wondering if free papers would be granted to
attend an event with such a name. One of the promised changes for the 2009 season was a continually rotating line-up of DJs each and every month to keep the vibes fresh. First up for the new season was none other than Eternal Vibes, a staple on the south Florida party scene, but a first time selecta for the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. crew. So we say yes, new DJ, free drinks and a whole crop of new 2009 Soca that many have yet to enjoy ... we dey yah!!
Trying to stick to our new year’s resolution to arrive in a timely manner for parties, we reach well before 1AM. The fact that it was also DST time and the clocks were springing ahead and 'teefing' we of an hour of partying was also a motivating factor. Those in the crew not participating in the FREE drinks special entered via the usual means, the rest of us went to the separate entrance used to keep the line at the door to a minimum, collected our cup and took up a position by the bar. C.I.Dee Sound was on the early session warming things up as the crowd made their way inside. Many of the familiar faces were in attendance, but quite a few new ones as well. One thing that was still the same from last season was the patented C.I.Dee Sound Old School session, that always gets the crowd dancing ... and this time it was a preview to next month’s theme; Old Time F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and the announcement that the special guest DJ for Old Time F.R.I.E.N.D.S. would be none other than Teddy Mohammed brought a roar of approval from many in the crowd. Well by now the night is in full swing, the clock done sprung ahead and is high time for some 2009 Soca. C.I.Dee sets it off and brings back the lost art of the surprise mix! Them fellas mix from an old school track straight into a wicked 2009 Kes tune yes, bring back some serious partying in Trini in the 90’s memories! Then the baton was passed off to House Arrest, who finished off the night in fine fashion. When he bus KMC's “I’m Not Drunk” it was sing along time, even for those who didn’t make it to C2K9. Not to be undone by laws and noise ordinances, the sixAxis guys were able to keep the partying going till almost 5AM to make up for lost time. Like someone said on the mic that night, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is really the place where the Grown and Sexy meet up to have good time! And then came the proverbial cherry on top of the 5AM cherry, HOT CORN SOUP! We comin’ back next month in some conductor pants and suede Pumas!! Party McFly==================================== |

Alas the wives and girlfriends need not have worried as the ‘Benefits’
being offered was the ‘pay one price and drink free all night promotion’
which in these hard times was welcomed by many.
