The Queen's Crown

After 3 weeks of what has become one of Barbados' most talked about swimsuit competitions, ten beautiful finalists were ready to grace the stage in hope to be crowned this year's King Island Queen.

Doors opened at 3pm and the admission was $35 Bds. By 6pm, the entire venue was packed, people were ready to party, others came to support the top finalists and many came dressed to kill.

Last year's winner Joyanne Skeete and 25 of her closest friends were treated to a special party in the VIP section. They were joined by some of this year's judges - Mr. Al Gilkes, well-known businessman in Barbados and known for such shows as Reggae on the Hill, Vintage Reggae and Reggae on the Beach; Mr. Richard Haynes of BAJE International and South Central; JFK from King and XXL's magazines; and Ms. Lilani McCollin, Miss Barbados World 2000.

Now TJJ fans, this was just not only a swimsuit competition it was also a PARTY. Entertainment was provided by the World famous Black Chiney Sound (that's right Bobby and Willy Chin had the crowd hype in between the show), Malcolm X, NRG Sounds and of course the Boomtribe DJs.

The competition had 4 Rounds but it was Round 1 and 4 that had the crowd screaming and chanting for their winners. In Round 1, all ten finalists hit the stage in sponsored red bikinis by the HIV Commission. As the night progressed the ladies were judged in Rounds 2 and 3 on their individual style, confidence and interaction with the crowd. By Round 4 it was time to name the winners. In Fifth place - Bonita Sylvester; In Fourth Place - Tricia Beckles; in Third Place - Annika Grazette; and the crowd shocker of all there was a tie for First Place - Saskia Griffith and Tameisha Boyce.

The crowd went crazy at this point and therefore was given the choice to choose the People's Favorite. After 5 minutes of screaming and chanting Tameisha Boyce was crowned the People's Queen. All ten ladies were beautiful on stage and congratulations to all of you - You are all winners!

Special congrats to Tameisha Boyce and Saskia Griffith! We are looking forward to next year's calendar.

So folks, the most talked about swimsuit competition in Barbados was one not to be missed - girls in bikinis, famous DJs, and thanks to the many sponsors plenty of giveaways throughout the event. Don't miss it next year!
