Sounds too good to be true. Until 2006 a full Carnival Band complete with soca truck parading in Manhattan was unheard of. But 2007 has made it the second year that the combined efforts of Dream Team TnT and EJ Productions of NY have succeeded in staging a fantastic presentation for the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade held on Sunday June 10th. Attracting close to 2.5 million spectators of mostly Latin American heritage who packed both sides of fifth avenue from 40th to 87th streets to witness over 120 floats parade in front of a star studded cast of personalities that included Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Tito Puentes, Geraldo Riviera and others, Trinidad and Tobago Carnival was represented in all its glory.
Paul Singh, leader of Dream Team admitted that he was a bit nervous about the reception that his presentation may have received with the JFK plot still big news among Americans. But he and teammate Earl Beckles of EJ Productions decided to go ahead with the show as planned. Said Singh 'It was a special moment for me to see Trinidad Carnival accepted and enjoyed by an audience who knows so little about our culture'. In a sea of thousands of Puerto Rican Flags, the single TnT flag that adorned the only Soca truck in the parade stood out like a beacon. It was a proud moment for Trinidad and Tobago.
Assistance in funding this event came from the National Carnival Development Foundation, The Sunday Punch, GAK Enterprises and Douglas Rankin & Associates, Attorneys of NY. Costumes by Dream Team, Norman Huggins(Florida) Charlotte Alleyne and 'Fazzie' (NY). The Dream Team Carnival Committee will be launching their 2008 Carnival Presentation 'BEJEWELED' on Sunday August 26th 2007 at Pier 1 Chaguaramas.
