Bunji Garlin, Soca Dancehall Star, Signs to VP Records

Nov 13 2006 -- A multi-album deal has been formed with Trinidad recording artist, Bunji Garlin, and VP Records.

In 2004, VP Records released Bunji’s first internationally distributed album ‘Revelation’ and will put forth his upcoming release, ‘Global’, expected in early 2007. The anticipated album will feature Bunji’s signature blend of dancehall, soca, and reggae. Highlights include collaborations with the legendary Freddie McGregor, stand-out track “Brrrt” on the Bobby Konder’s March Out riddim, and a remix with Arrow on his hit “Hot Hot Hot.” Since 1998, Bunji Garlin has been designated the “Ragga-Soca King.”

His style is heavily influenced by both dancehall and soca sounds. His firey dancehall chanter with fast-tempo melodies has crowned him the Soca Monarch title on three different occasions. Also at the recent 2006 COTT (Copywright Organisation Of Trinidad and Tobago) Awards, Bunji took home the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year award for “Put In The Thing.”

VP Records A&R, Edwin Howell, states his excitement on the venture. “Bunji’s fusion of musical genres brings a certain edge and energy which transcends beyond soca. We are happy to work with such a versatile talent; and we want to make sure he has the right platform to reach his fullest potential.”
