St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival came to an exciting end on last lap January 4th with the streets of Basseterre flooded with revelers and mas players jamming to the sounds of various sound systems, dj’s and bands. The air was filled with the top tunes for Carnival 2006-07 which included Tun it up by d’Vybz Band, Saucepan by Provoker, Punish by the Sugar Band, Jouvert Bounce by Akshun Band and Masquerade by The Small Axe Band. The songs were all contenders for the road march title however d’Vybz’ Tun it up and Small Axe Band’s Masquerade separted themselves from the pack particularly on Carnival day and last lap. Small Axe Band’s Masquerade was declared the St.Kitts Carnival Road March out distancing d’Vybz bands Tun it up, particularly on the final day of road march judging.

The Phunnmakers’ “Mask is Mas” troupe was declared band of the year ahead of the Inferno Mas Camps presentation of “Jewels of the Caribbean”. DJ Ronnie Rascals Xtreme Jouvert Troupe was adjudged best jouvert troupe while Osdel “Scotty” Hanley won the King of the Bands award on parade day.

Calypso Monarch King KonrisThe National Calypso Monarch title was rife with controversy which is almost a given with the annual Carnival marquis event. King Konris retained his crowd after edging the National Female Calypso Queen Anastasha by just 4 points.

King Konris on the night sang "Hold on to Your Crown" and "Miss Melody" and his performance was good but below expectations according to most members of the audience.

But what was not expected on the night was the newcomer to the finals Anastasia, and her explosive double performances that hypnotized everyone present.

In both songs ("Litmus Test" and "Wish List") she mesmerized the audience and had everyone thinking that their will be a National Calypso Queen for the first time.

However the judges saw it differently and Konris’ study of and attention to the criteria earned him the narrow victory and placed him among an elite few of calypso kings to repeat.

4 time king and multi-time leeward islands and federation monarch King Socrates placed second runner-up with songs, "Austerity Measures" and "Welcome the World", while Culturama Monarch King Dis 'N' Dat placed third runner-up with "Fruits of Labour" and "OECS Integration".
