Chancellor Queen Macoomeh publishes her 1st book - Tales from Icebox LandToronto, Ontario, Canada - The Chancellor of Commess University, Queen Macoomeh, has been writing a rather spirited, weekly column - in dialect - in Toronto's Share Newspaper since August 2001. At the behest of her legions of fans, she has compiled 37 of her best columns, with a few new stories, into one book. Tales from Icebox Land debuted in October 2007 and will have its Toronto launch on Friday, November 23rd, 2007 at A Different Booklist, 746 Bathurst Street, Toronto from 7.30pm - 9.30pm. Admission is free.

Explaining her choice to write her highly popular column in Trinidad & Tobago's vernacular, Queen Macoomeh says, "Just because I choose to write in this style of grammar does not mean that I cannot write in standard English. Like a muse wanting to inspire, I adapt to my audience. Communication is ineffective otherwise."

Born in Trinidad, she migrated to Canada in 1977. While pursuing further education, she became increasingly frustrated with imbalances in her new chosen society in Canada, and its close cousin, USA - both of which she collectively refers to as "Icebox Land."

For the un-initiated, her columns are like a combination of USA's (TV) Comedy Network's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and Canada's (TV) CBC Network's "This Hour has 22 Minutes" delivered with Caribbean flavor. Her column uses satire and humour as its main ingredients with observations on such topics as local politics, societal ills and world politics to name a few.

FYI: (i) Queen Macoomeh's columns are usually 700 words in length of sense, nonsense, and common sense; (ii) At the back of her 163-page paperback book - Tales from Icebox Land - there is a glossary of words so that the un-initiated won't get "lost in translation;" and (iii) since Queen Macoomeh is a well-read, educated and opinionated woman … strap yourself in for this wild yet fun read as no topic is off limits!

Published by Commess University Press in October 2007, Tales from Icebox Land is currently available (i) in Toronto from A Different Booklist (www.ADifferentBooklist.com), or (ii) online from www.Amazon.com and/or from www.BarnesAndNoble.com, search word: Tales from Icebox Land. Finally, (iii) personally autographed books can be purchased directly from Queen Macoomeh at www.CommessUniversity.com.
