Lady ShellyBy now a lot of people are familiar with the Jamaican/Canadian who created quite a buzz in 2007 with the release of her very controversial hit, “Kum Out”. The song was the basis of several debates and arguments on many airwaves in Jamaica. It talks about domestic abuse from a female perspective and goes as far as encouraging women to retaliate.

Lady Shelly who is known more for her dance/house/techno hits recently returned to her home town of Kingston Jamaica where she has decided to work on a full length album. The announcement was made last week at a small press conference held in Montego Bay. The artist has said that she has no intention of working with major producers simply because of their name, but rather to work with producers who share her passion for lyrical content.

In October, 2007, Roots fm (a community radio station based in Kingston) opened their lines to allow listeners to vote for new music with content. Lady Shelly received the most votes and incited a nationwide buzz. When asked what can be expected in terms of lyrics, Shelly promised no surprises. “What has gotten me this far in the music game is my honesty when I write, so that’s exactly what will be on this album, honesty”. The Karamanti as she is affectionately referred to said that there will be a few house tracks on the album as she refuses to negate her European fan base.

There has been no official date set in place for the release as yet but it will be some time in the summer of 2008. In the mean time, her fans can enjoy “Kum Out” along with her latest club anthem, “Party Tonight”.
