The view from the
water could not have been better, just ask many of the boaters who were
on the Delaware watching the event from the river. Now with Salseros strapped
with blue bands and Salseras strapped in red bands on their hands, the
mingling had begun on the pier of the U.S.S. Battleship New Jersey with
some hot Salsa and Soca sounds.
All the hot Philadelphia
Salseros were in the house as were Philadelphia's hottest Latin DJ's.
Jay Rockwell passed the baton to Rumbero from NYC who continued to turn
up the Salsa and Mambo heat in the cool night air. Now this is one event
for sure where we did not hear dancers complain that it was too hot to
dance! Two dance floors spread across the pier while in the distant background
the smooth Soca & Reggae music offered the salsa crew a welcome change
from the scene, a small outlet to have a drink or just chit chat. C.I.DEE
Sound was laying down the tracks in the Soca & Reggae corner.
SALSA IN THE CITY
had several winners within minutes of the "Meet your Match"
activity. There were so many great prizes that were given away each hour,
pity that DJ Rumbero had to win one of the ipods. As Joe said, "Why
would this DJ want an ipod?" ;-) And we are all totally jealous of
those who won the 2006 Full LA congress passes. As the night air became
cooler, we saw the tented dance floor fill up with mad dancers, especially
the kids, who were lighting up the floor all night. Well, if no one said
so, we must admit that it was one of the best-dressed dances for the year.
Ladies were so elegant and men were sizzling, each twirling in circles
around each other in the lights gleaming off the water. Thanks a million
to all the volunteers who helped make the night a success. Timothy, Janene,
Kim, Gabriel, Maggie, Maria, Mildred, Yodali and Silma , you guys are
the bomb! But most of all thanks to all the Philly Salseros who truly
made the Salsa in the City event a Sunset to Remember. Keep
the Salsa Hot!
