March 21^st marks World Down Syndrome Day; this year’s theme is “right to work”. As part of our continued commitment to spreading the awareness of Down syndrome, the Down Syndrome Family Network will be hosting our 2^nd annual conference on March 21^st in Trinidad and 22^nd in Tobago. The event is open to persons of all abilities.

We are honoured to have as our keynote speaker, Down syndrome Self Advocate, Karen Gaffney.  Karen was born with Down syndrome; she is an open water swimmer who has completed nine miles across Lake Tahoe, swam in the Maui Channel, and was part of a relay team to cross the English Channel. Gaffney also graduated from Portland Community College with an Associate of Science degree and a Teacher’s Aide certificate.  She is the President of the Karen Gaffney Foundation; an organization dedicated to full inclusion for people with Down syndrome and others with disabilities in schools, families, the workplace and the community.
