The Antiguan Carnival is a celebration of music and dance held annually from the end of July to the first Tuesday in August. The most important day is that of the j'ouvert, in which brass and steel bands perform for much of the island's population.
Antigua’s Carnival is a spectacle of colour, fun, and excitement waiting to unfold. Melodic music with infectious beats and pretty, creative costumes are just a taste of what you can expect. If you are looking for a combined taste of Antigua’s traditional and modern culture, including lots of feting and the biggest street parties for all of the hardcore party goers, as well as an ANTIGUAN festive environment, then Antigua’s Carnival is definitely the festival for you.
The festivities range from the Party Monarch and Calypso Monarch competitions, the Panorama steel band competition, and the spectacular Parade of Bands to the Caribbean Queen's Competition. In addition to these major events, the nonstop revelry of the carnival includes innumerable smaller festivities, including local concerts, food fairs, parades, and cultural shows.
