Eight days before Miami Carnival, the children of South Florida are given the opportunity to celebrate our Caribbean culture and share it with our community.
Young masqueraders (age 14 and under) parade around Central Broward Regional Park, dancing in their brightly colored costumes to the soca music provided.
With more than ten junior masquerade bands, the Junior Carnival is growing and has become a mainstay of Miami Carnival.
The day provides the attendees the opportunity to experience the young performers as they participate in their heritage.
The Junior Carnival Parade includes competitions for the Junior Band of the Year, Junior Queen and King of Carnival, and Junior Female and Male Individuals of the Year.
To encourage further growth of our culture in our young people – and to introduce additional components to attendees, competitions were introduced for Junior Steel Pan Soloist and Junior Soca/Calypso Monarch, both of which competitions have proven to be extremely popular.
As at all Carnival events, Caribbean food, beverages, arts and crafts are on display and on sale throughout the day.
