On Sunday, January 24th, the masses who gathered in anticipation of seeing their former Groovy and Power Soca Monarch winner, Shurwayne Winchester, perform for both segments of competition, in the semi-final round, were taken aback when they did not see him return on stage following his performance of the 2010 hit, "Murdah".

Many speculated. Many became anxious, worried as to what could have led to his disappearance. Little did the masses know and understand that Winchester, the artiste who has copped both the Groovy and Power Monarch titles on multiple occasions, and even both in one year, a few years ago- acted based on professionalism and with respect for the business of carnival.

A prior professional engagement created a time constraint for the artiste, seeing him only gracing the semi-final stage at the Arima Veladrome for the Groovy segment of the show.

Prior to his appearance at Soca Monarch semis though, Shurwayne and YOU created a whirlwind of excitement and thrill at Yorke’s annual All-Inclusive fete. The band leader and his unit brought the crowd to that euphoria that many had been hoping would come, in Carnival 2010. Energy peaked, the band commanded fete lovers, with Shurwayne directing the heavily engaged crowd to move to the left and right with the hit single Lonely Road- the track he would have performed for the judges of the Power Monarch competition.

Despite this unforeseen situation, Shurwayne remains unscathed. With his eyes set to penetrate the masses during the rest of the carnival season.

Shurwayne and his 13 month old band, YOU- plan on doing extensive soca damage at WASA Fete this coming Saturday January 30th and following onward, at fetes like Wicked In White, , Insomnia, Army Fete, Brass- The Rebirth and many other fetes across the country in the build up to the Greatest Show on Earth.
