Last Soul Boy pays tribute to Trinidad and Tobago’s legendary leader

New York  – Last Soul Boy Productions presents a night of Trini-style culture and revelry dedicated to the legacy of Trinidad & Tobago’s first Prime Minister, Eric Williams, on September 28, 6pm-11pm, at The Park in Manhattan (view flyer).

“As a scholar, intellectual and the man who led Trinidad and Tobago to independence, Eric Williams was a source of extreme pride for generations of his countrymen yet, many of our young people today are not aware of his legacy and contribution to our culture,” says The Last Soul Boy, CEO Colin Williams (no relation). That is why he decided to have a trilogy of events that leads up to Dr. William’s 100th birthday in 2011.  “I really want to create awareness of his significance in our history.  He was a visionary man whose accomplishments helped uplift the world.  I plan on hosting events annually, that culminate with a historical celebration in Trinidad & Tobago on his 100th birthday.”

Festivities kick off with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, followed by a special performance by acclaimed singer Carol Addison as some of America’s most influential Trinidadians gather to pay homage to the cause.

Often called the “father of the nation,” Eric Eustace Williams was an accomplished academician and author of several noted books on culture, politics, slavery and economics in the Caribbean before entering politics. In 1955 he founded the People’s National Movement (PNM), the political party that won the nation’s general election in 1956. After serving as chief minister then premier of the country’s first party government, Williams was elected prime minister and served until his death in 1981. Recognized for his keen and colorful oratory.
