It seems like ever since Carnival 2010 has ended, every event I have been to has either opened my eyes to a new genre of music, or asked me to participate in it. Nevertheless it was all good. Not only was Tuesday 30th March 2010 Trinidad & Tobago's annual Shouters Baptiste holiday, but it also marked the beginning of a new movement and opportunity for young artists and musicians to portray their talent.

As I had a one-on-one conversation with the promoter; Mr. Sean Young Wing, he honestly just wanted to bring an opportunity for both young and old upcoming artistes to just be able to come from wherever they are, whether it be off the streets of liming on the avenue, or from their home and just play on the stage set up. In a sense its a great way of giving them that exposure as well as experience of performing live in front of people. Bands that performed last night were Wheel (Vocals: Crystal Katerson, Bassist: Sheldon Manoo, Guitarist: Stephan Peterson) and Single Recruit (Vocals: Damion Phagoo, Guitarist: Jeremy Anil Mangalsingh, and they also had some help on the bass by Sheldon Manoo). Some very talented soloists also graced the floor like India Bristol (established bathroom singer), Afiya Modeste, Judah B and Lindon Lai Tan. The stage was also set for poets (Rachel Collymore) and dancers (Blair Cameron and her partner Michael Fortune). Besides patrons being allowed to sing their own selections and compositions, there was also the karaoke machine available for people to just enjoy themselves singing their favorite songs that were available. Some of these brave participants were Alicia Lee, Phoenix and Blues.

For their first event, I believe that it was a success and just the beginning of great days and nights to come. Why do I sound so confident about this? It's because I, Jokey Juice also gave my two cents in the performances segment by performing some of my very own favorite selections live. Must say great thanks and respect to Mr. Sean Young Wing and his lovely wife Janice for having us present. Hope we are invited to many more of your Open Nights.
