WHO: Meet the band leaders and designers from the “China Mas”group that are portraying the beautiful continent of Africa. China Mas Group was formed in 1998 and holds a record seven “Band of the Year” titles in Miami Carnival. The band leaders and designers began working on their presentations months in advance and will be showcasing their costumes.

Attendees will also enjoy the sounds of “Steelaway”. Steel Away is a two-piece steel drum ensemble based in Florida. Its co-founders are native Trinidadians, Fitzroy “Fox” Alleyne and Gail Clarke-Alleyne. Both have made invaluable contributions to the culture of their country and are now considered ambassadors, proudly showcasing their talents to all that would listen. Fox and Gail met in 1985 as performers with the Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra and have since been inseparable. Together Fox and Gail have competed in the National Panorama and Music Festival competitions with the world renowned Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra. 

WHAT: Join the Miami Carnival Committee for a sneak peak of what you can expect to see at Miami Carnival on Sunday, October 12, 2008. The launch officially starts the season of Miami Carnival.

About the 24th Annual Miami Carnival

Miami Carnival, a refinement of the traditional West Indian style Carnival presentation, will be a spectacle of pageantry, color and fantasy depicted through a kaleidoscope of incredible costumes, steelbands, calypso, soca and reggae music.  A riotous blend of color and music will constitute the parade of groups, which expects to draw visitors from throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
