Toronto, ON (Canada) May 5, 2010
- After an illustrious fifteen years of amazing and entertaining broadcasts, the dynamic on-air duo of DJ Chief and Jester closed the final curtain on Canada's beloved Worldwide Wake Up Show. Last Thursday at 8:05am, Jester and Chief were informed that last week's broadcast would be the show's final airing on CIUT 89.5 FM.

Boasting what was undeniably one of the most polished on-air productions in Canada, The Worldwide Wake Up Show is a two-time award-winning institution in college radio broadcasting. Worldwide beat out shows across the country in 2008 and 2009 consecutively to claim the title of College Radio Show Of The Year at Canada's esteemed Stylus DJ Awards, and fans across the country voted to nominate the show again this year (2010). The Worldwide Wake Up Show now stands ready to potentially three-peat at the Stylus Awards this year - a feat which would place Jester, Chief and Worldwide in the history books for this particular highly-coveted Stylus Award category.

Reminiscing about the show's amazing journey from fledgling college radio show to one of Canada's most respected, up-to-the-minute radio entertainment packages, Jester gave the following statement, detailing the story of the "Little Radio Show That Could", which we all now know as The Worldwide Wake Up Show.

"When I first started Worldwide with my partner at the time - Majesty (Prodigy Sound Crew) - our vision for the show was to just play good music for people. We didn't have any on-air experience at all, but as the years went on we made the show something special. It was a very Hip Hop-based show at that time, so we invited artists to the show that we were also fans of, like Grimace Love, Dane-O, IRS, Choclair and Kardinal Offishall among others. After Majesty left the show to pursue other radio ventures, I then enlisted the talents of DJ Chief. Worldwide continued to grow and become a very important part of the community. I still wanted more for Worldwide so I went out and found the best voice-over people in the world to give Worldwide that professional sound. Why does college radio have to sound like college radio? With all of that we also decided to expand the music that we were giving people. Worldwide provided you Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae, Soca, Old School, House and the list goes on. With myself and Chief on the air, we were able to reach out to some the biggest stars in the world to appear on our show - P. Reign, JD Era, Machel Montano, Kim Davis, Souls Of Mischief, Wayne Wonder, Alison Hinds, Maximus Dan, Choclair, Saukrates, Baron, Obie Trice, Rupee, Onika Bostic, Bunji Garlin, Clinton Sparks, Big Tigger, Sparrow, Destra, Jully Black, Melanie Fiona and K'Naan - we were a very big part in giving Canadian artists and musicians an avenue to be heard in the community.  We stood behind breaking records with an abundance of "World Premieres", celebrity phone and  in-studio interviews and so much more.  We wanted to give people what we thought our city of Toronto needed. We live in such a diverse city that we wanted to please everyone in the time frame we were given and I feel like - in the end - we achieved that."

In the wake of the show's retirement, both halves of the Worldwide Wake Up team have heartfelt words about the Worldwide's abrupt ending.

DJ Chief wants all the supporters of the Worldwide Wake Up Show to know: "It has been a great 10-plus years making you, the listener, have a great start to your Thursday morning. I really appreciate the love and support you have given me and the show, and just look for bigger and better things to come from Worldwide, Jester and DJ Chief. From the bottom of my heart... I thank you."

Reflecting on the show's many years of success, Jester offers these heartfelt words to all the show's fans and supporters: "The one thing I will miss the most about doing the Worldwide Wake Up Show is hearing how much all of YOU enjoyed listening to the show. As you know, we never got paid to be on the air - we were volunteers of CIUT 89.5FM - and I personally enjoyed doing the show for the 10-plus years we were on the air. Thank you for always supporting the Number One wake up show - Worldwide. Worldwide Wake Up Show Family consisted of Majesty (Prodigy Sound Crew), DJ Chief, Wan Luv, Teashia Adamson, Ian Andre Espinet, Elisia Johnson, Bandit, myself (Jester) and YOU - the listener. I can't thank you enough. Being stopped in the streets or at events, and being told about how much you love the show or how it has made you late for work - THAT has been my payment for the 10-plus years on radio. Worldwide Wake Up Show. Thank you."
The program may have been laid to rest but the amazing talent behind the award-winning Worldwide Wake Up Show lives on, as both halves of the Worldwide Wake Up Show team continue to work non-stop on their various individual endeavors.
