The King Is Coming ... First thoughts that came to our minds was either Elvis or Michael Jackson lol, but wait they are both R.I.P ... humm. Guess that was the promoters plan ... to leave it ambiguous until closer to event date. When that time came however, the promotion Ad changed to ... Zen welcomes the "King of Chutney," Ravi B and his band Karma.

So on Sunday May 30th, the night before the holiday of Arrival Day, TJJ will be celebrating chutney style … up in de Zen. The return of the "King" who they say just came from his world tour would also be performing along side Nisha B and Gregory.

When we arrived, on stage performance was already in full swing. Even though the club was still filling up, those who were there were warming up to the sounds of The Mellobugs Music Machine. The band did an interesting job of entertaining the crowd, but it was the part when the two front-line singers started clashing each other, that really got the audience taken up their performance. It was a test to see which one of them had the better answer back by the use of chutney songs, with the crowd being the judge. We know a lot of people had a good fun filled laugh here ... TJJ for sure did :-) Quite a bit of Trini humor involved!

After Mellobugs performance DJ Duane held the fort, musically entertaining folks until it was time for the next band to come on stage. Now this will be Ravi B's first time performance here, since he won his crown in the Chutney Monarch finals. The anticipation as such was very high, and his extra late performance time only caused this feeling of anxiety to climax further. So when Ravi's voice was heard singing ..."You cah change meeehhhh, nooo wayyyyy" from back stage, the crowd went wild.

Besides many popular chutney selections, the band did quite a bit of other musical genres in their performance tonight as well. Some of these including dancehall, hip hop, R&B and pop, with Gregory's rendition of Fire Flies getting plenty crowd participation. Ohh how they loved it!

Even though Karma gave nothing short of a good performance, we could see the toll of exhaustion in Ravi B and the Band. It looked like it was truly one long day for them, and after walking out of Piarco airport and heading straight to Zen, to give a full live performance ... humm! We can see that these guys love what they do. Good show guys and worry not ... you are all back home in sweet T&T, r&r is a guarantee. Time for we to go and get some sleep too ...
