On the second night of the Trinidad portion of FWTT 2010 the organizers presented Cosquelle Couture. The night was mainly a swimwear showcase with some other interesting designers thrown in to mix things up. Bernadette ‘Berns’ Bedard showed a collection of flirty, brightly patterned, sparkly swimsuits in her Passion Fruit Designs presentation. While Chiz*l Mensware designer Ivaek archer brought the drama with a runway show that included a “Klansman”, men in rain coats, men in skirts and very brief menswear and a t-shirt with “Pipe 4 sale” emblazoned across the chest. Christian Boucaud designs presented a versatile collection of swimwear, beach and casual wear and accessories. Sandra Hordatt’s line Mood Swings displayed swimsuits in a variety of styles and patterns that presumably represented different moods. She moved through suits in bright colours, sequins, animal prints and rasta colours to more seductive black shimmery pieces.

A staple on the local fashion scene for decades now, Yoko Fung also showcased her line Yoko on Cosquelle Couture Thursday. Her collection was as expected eclectic, eccentric and tinged with dominatrix influences. The designer herself walked the runway with a very young companion also outfitted in dominatrix gear. Peggy- Ann Simon presented a very busy line, P. Simon, which used various elements to create unique swim and beach wear. This included a transparent plastic outfit that was reminiscent of an umbrella. Closing the show on Thursday night was Celeste Johnny with her line Johnny Vincent. Johnny’s sexy, sophisticated and well made swimsuits were a great way to end the show on a high note.

Thursday night’s show was generally upbeat and offered a lot of visual stimulation. There was definitely the combination of wearable and wacky that was a standard of all the shows. Regardless of your own personal tastes it was hard to be bored at a FWTT fashion show because there was so much happening on the runway.

Once again the venue was at capacity proving that Trinis are indeed eager to support our local fashion industry. The event has become a must attend one for many. It should also be noted that the crowd was a remarkably diverse representation of our population, which is telling of the fact that fashion is a unifying interest that transcends age, race and class barriers. The fact that we are generally so receptive to fashion also showed in the way the audience themselves came out dressed to impress. Ladies and gents alike must be complimented for stepping out looking sharp as thumbtacks.
