The 2010 Caribana parade, despite the reduced financial support by those in the suits, went off without a hitch proving that it would take more than politicians and politics to get between West Indians and their Carnival. As is the norm masqueraders took to the streets and showcased that which people from all over the world have come to see.{women in bikinis} For years the question "who yuh playin with?" has been asked by those wanting to know your affiliation and allegiance. For you see the parade is not merely a feast for the eyes nor is it a simple escape from the work, mortgage payments and bills. It's about WINNING the coveted "Band of the Year" title and bragging rights.
It is for this reason that well over 2,500 people signed up with Saldenah Mas K Club with the hope and aspiration of playing with a winning band. They were not disappointed as PORTRAITS took the band of the year title 20 points clear of their closest rivals Carnival Nationz and 24 points clear of third place Toronto Revellers.
That being said west Indian men and women are the most beautiful people on the planet and if you have any doubt you probably have never been to a a carnival parade {your loss}. Legs, breasts, thighs, two-piece one piece.....it sounds like a KFC order but make no mistake I am referring to the beautiful women who have slaved at the gym for this day to fit into their costumes. Even those who did not make it to the gym and are comfortable and confident with their bodies {as they should be} emitted the same amount and in some cases more carnival spirit and sensual energy as those gym pheasants.
This year the the song of choice to cross the stage was "PALANCE". It was a refreshing change of pace to see masqueraders performing a dance that they could look back years from now and not cringe or wish for the internet to shutdown. While I myself see nothing wrong with a little wine and jam as with all things..... everything in moderation. So in case you missed it because of all the talk of limited funding you have no one but yourself to blame, When has money ever stopped a Carnival. "Ketch yuhself" and be here in 2011!
