Fresh out of Crop Over, Spice Mas was calling our name! And ironically, a few days after leaving Bim, Frenchie (flying from Martinique) and I (flying from St. Maarten) linked back up in Barbados en route to Grenada on the Carnival Friday. After some serious delays in Antigua waiting on Liat’s CEO and accompanying big wigs, also heading to Grenada to put out some fires of their own, we touched down in the Spice Isle in the afternoon. As for d’ local Juice, he was dealing with his own Liat’s stories having to fly back to Trini to sort out some mechanical problems... gotta love Liat!

Soon after checking into Grand Beach Resort, we got the call from our boy (TF) to link up at Garfield's Beach Bar (which was located right in front of the resort on Grand Anse Beach) to get the lime started. With Carib (in a darker bottle than we have in Trinidad… apparently it makes it taste better) in hand, we immediately felt the sweet Caribbean vibe. A couple hours later, Carib bottles (with a Stag, Piton, Guinness or Ting in the mix) were piled high and it was time to dive into the Carnival and whatever treats the spice isle has to offer.

This beautiful island features more than 45 beaches full of countless opportunities for adventure, snorkeling, romancing, or just relaxing. And both Grand Anse Beach (located on two incredible miles of white sand) and Morne Rouge Beach better known as BBC Beach (just a short distance south of Grand Anse) will be found on almost everyone’s Top 3 Beaches in Grenada (Top 15 World list), and lie in the heart of the hotel district, in the south of the island.

We enjoyed meals at several spots, including the Victory Bar & Grill at Port Louis Marina (try the Lamb ceviche ... thanks Melanie), Creole Shak (great lunch, loads of local Grenadian dishes at a very reasonable price), Carib Sushi (slow service but great sushi), Oliver's Restaurant @ Spice Island Beach Resort (excellent Creole and international cuisine) and Bananas (Grenada’s hotspot which also includes a lively bar and night club in addition to a restaurant ... get the pizza). When in Grenada, don't be afraid to try everything. Remember, you can always walk with your Imodium or bottle of Pepto!

We ended our 5 day trip at the AAA Four-Diamond rated Spice Island Beach Resort, and as someone perfectly stated, “This is THE resort but keep it as a secret!”  The rooms are immaculate and have wonderful amenities such as VERY comfortable king size beds, huge jetted tub, flat screen TV, fully stocked mini bar, and you can choose from either a beautiful view of Grand Anse Beach (where your patio doors open right onto the beach) or your own swimming pool.  Nerissa and the wonderful Spice Island staff, thank you for putting the icing on the cake for our very first trip to Grenada!

Already looking forward to our next visit to the Spice Isle...
