His name is almost one in the same with the season. The spirit of Christmas in T&T flourishes with the sound of each track he’s offered throughout his illustrious career and he has no plans of stopping. Irwin Reyes Johnson is a master entertainer and what’s even more is the fact that his music comes mostly at a time when the world at large, is peacefully and enjoyably engaged in the celebration of Christ’s birth.

Scrunter, as he’s popularly known in T&T, has over the years penetrated the Soca-Parang market in such a way that he’s now recognized as the Soca-Parang King. In 2010, with plans and engagements that will see the unveiling of a brand new CD within a few weeks, the “Madam Jeffery” singer is teasing his fans with just a snippet of the real thing that’s soon to come. Two tracks, “Pension,” which is a traditional Soca-Parang song and a ballroom inspired ballad called, “ All I Want For Christmas,” were on Monday, October 25th, unleashed via the airwaves in Trinidad and Tobago.

A third single is still to be released and along with some of the best Caribbean Christmas music, certainly from one of the Caribbean’s finest musical entertainers, an eight track CD will be distributed to record shops, for the world to bite into.

The artiste’s musical engagements this season are expected to be plentiful however, on the heels of his releases this past Monday, there’s one big event he anxiously awaits. Along with some of his fellow soca-parangderos, Scrunter will be featured at a concert-style outdoor parang party in Port-of-Spain on December 10th. There’s no doubt that this one will be special as it’s Port-of-Spain’s answer to the artiste’s very own Scrunter’s Pork Dance event that’s held at D’ Forest in Sangre Grande. In the interim though, Scrunter offers the seasonal celebrators a taste of something good, with a guarantee than the full package will be even better.
