Remember when maxi taxis had names like Airborne 1? And you wouldn't be caught dead in one that didn't have the hardest "pong" and the darkest tint? Remember when you would go to a dance and do the butterfly and bogle until the sun came up? Remember when you couldn't wait for the latest Dr. Hyde, Teddy Mohammed and Chinese Laundry tape (yes cassette tape lol) to come out? Well Remember the Times certainly brought back sweet memories of the good ole days. For a couple of hours I was transported back to a being a teenager growing up without a care in the world. Style upon style from some of Brooklyn's hottest DJ's had patrons holding their heads in pure ecstasy. The young and young at heart partied hard from start to finish.
Though Studio Loft is a huge space, for this event the area was reduced in size by extending the bar area. Very smart move by the promoters as this helped in making the space more intimate and the DJ stage was visible from every vantage point. As the night progressed and more people arrived, the space was opened up to give patrons more room to enjoy themselves. This wasn't a stand up crowd, people came out to party hard and that they most certainly did. The venue was set up concert style and the stage was set for the musical transporters to take us back in time. Special lighting effects and smoke screens help to create the feel of actually being teleported to another place and time.
DJ’s Anonymous, The Party Rocker himself Back 2 Basics, Starting from Scratch live and direct from Toronto, Foreign Bass, and GB God Bless came out in full force with a refreshing mix of dancehall, soca, R&B, hip hop, and towards the end even a little soca parang, ushering in the holiday season.
Remember the Times was definitely a musical journey worth taking. Beam me up Scotty ;)
