Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. February 3rd, 2011 - The Mighty Sparrow is coming to South Trinidad for the most amazing show in years. On one night, Skinner Park in San Fernando will light up with the biggest and best artistes of Trinidad and Tobago’s entertainment industry. The event dubbed, She Is Carnival- promises to surpass the traditional tiers of local stage shows, evolving into an international presentation of local women who have and continue to stand firmly for cultural awareness.
The Mighty Sparrow, a man with over 30 years experience in stage performance, will grace the Southern stage as a special guest. The veteran promises to deliver some of his distinguished catalogue of hits, in this is very first performance in Carnival 2011. As the only male artiste on the cast for the night, Sparrow’s inclusion is guaranteed by promoters to be worthwhile. It is expected that patrons will bask in the melodies of songs like “ Mr. Walker,” and “ Jean & Dinah” along with many other Caribbean favourites. The Mighty Sparrow is eager to hit the stage in T&T’s Carnival 2011 and with She Is Carnival high on the Carnival agenda for many, this will undoubtedly be a showcase of true Caribbean stars.
In honour of female icon, Calypso Rose, February 11th will see performances by many of today’s leading female soca artistes, among them, Destra Garcia, Denise Belfon, Nadia Batson, Nisha B, Lil Bits, Fay Ann Lyons and Patrice Roberts. Also carded to join that list of entertainers on stage are Chutney Soca queen Drupatee and the mother of Port-of-Spain, Singing Sandra.
In honour of women across the island, this show is being organized with the aim of highlighting the beauty and dedication of mothers and hard -working women across the board. Organizers are now urging patrons to get their tickets early as they expect this one to be sold out by early next week. “ You can’t beat this cast,” said a representative of Tropix Entertainment. “ Sparrow is Carnival- Singing Sandra is Carnival, Destra is Carnival and we know Calypso Rose is definitely a mother of the culture. This is a show of excellence and we know thousands are going to want to be a part of it. They should however get their tickets as soon as possible because the rush is already on.”
