Bump & Wine, Bump & Wine. In De Conga Line, Conga Line!!!

After having such a great time for the inaugural Bump & Wine cooler fete in 2010 (see coverage) at an affordable price of TT$150, free doubles & peleau, and an intimate crowd of just over 800 it was time to change locale from West Moorings to the Trinidad Hilton tennis courts for Bump & Wine 2011!

With Bump & Wine 2010 still at the forefront of my memory I was all geared up for this Bump & Wine event.  I expected it to still have its own unique vibe and not feel like any other cookie cutter cooler party.  So the TJJ Crew parked by Queen’s Hall and with cooler and cameras in hand made our way to the tennis court to get our serve-and-volley on!

As you entered you quickly realised that the event had significantly grown since 2010 which made the atmosphere feel more like any other large cooler fete... the intimacy was gone.  This was definitely unforced error by Jamboree that resulted in the umpire to declare that the ball was OUT!

In the next match, TJJ won the toss and I was up to serve first.  And just like Nadal I served ace after ace with drink after drink flowing from my cooler!  Up next were d’ local Juice and D’ Young Juice for their drinking doubles match against DJ Dane and Hollywood SachiAt least this time as compared to outing for DUCK in Stumped, D’ Young Juice was able to serve-and-volley forcing the match to go to deuce even against DJ Dane’s wicked musical backhand!  But in the end, TJJ won of course!

The chair umpire of the night was Hi Fidelity/Less Than Zero who decided the result of each musical rallies from the guest artists like Blaxx and Benjai.  In the end, it was Iwer George in his usual simple style “Mash Up The Place” with a melody of his past and present hits, but it was his retro Kaiso repertoire featuring hits “Fire In Me Wire” and “Tempo” by Trinidad’s first female calypso monarch Calypso Rose is what REALLY MASH UP DE PLACE!!!

All in all, yuh boy was still able to enjoy dis one, even though the intimacy was gone.  So let’s hope that Bump & Wine, just like the 1908s Barbados soca classic and its euphoric effect at all events from Limes to Weddings, still keep a nice vibe in the future.

Keiron was there... where were you?
