Elaborately-dressed traditional carnival characters, Tripolians steel band in rare form and four calypso icons made Holy Name Convent Past Pupils’ Association’s “Vintage fuh so!” Calypso show a raving success. On Friday 4th February, Queen’s Hall Auditorium became an enchanted theatre of excellence as a band of Jab-Jabs, a Midnight Robber, a Dame Lorraine and a Pierrot Grenade greeted the patrons of the annual fundraiser calypso show.

As they enjoyed all these elements of the festival on their way into the auditorium, patrons quickly realized that the old Mas pageantry and beautiful steel pan were just the beginning as they were in store for a one-of-a-kind musical extravaganza. David Rudder, the Mighty Shadow, the Black Stalin and Calypso Rose performed the musical experience with rendition after rendition of timeless hits.

First to the stage, after being introduced by Extempo great Black Sage, was the Mighty Shadow, who set the tone with a riveting performance dressed in his now signature all black. It was Calypso Rose’s turn next who is celebrating 55 years in the industry. She proceeded to demonstrate that at 71 she had lost little of her zest and passion as a performer.

After intermission during which time the patrons were treated to complimentary doubles, corn soup and other samplers, the event continued to get even more charged as the Black Stalin took the stage, resplendent in all white.  As the decibel level rose during Black Stalin’s performance, it got even higher when David Rudder took the stage to wrap up the show.

The evening, a success; the patrons satisfied on a musical buffet, it was time to draw the curtain down on Vintage fuh so! for yet another year. Ole time Mas, great steel pan and three kings & the queen meant a full house at the Queen’s Hall Auditorium and another resounding success for the Holy Name Convent Past Pupils’ Association.
