As I was in Soca @ De Sandbar earlier celebrating my first Bacchanal Jamaica Carnival, I was told I have to hit up the Pan Fete 2011. Contacting my girl L-Boogie and hearing about her escapades at Pan Fete 2010 - I said to myself  "this is a bound to must attend event ... Pan!? ... Jamaica!? ... What!!!???"

Held again in the exquisitely fabulous green grass garden of Jamaica's Pegasus Hotel in the centre or some might say centre of New Kingston - which by the way has a sexy lobby, fully air conditioned, kind of sort of romantic restaurant and a very large pool (yes all these things you see when you are walking towards the garden - then you meet the stairs ... thats right ... the stairs to go to the gardens ... the stairs to listen to the sweet blending of the various types of pans! I was most present to meet Chris at the door and surely link up with a few folks from the beach earlier. With a medium size crowd on hand who were either sitting (most of them) and the true die hard pan lovers standing in the grass and rocking sweetly to the sounds of the steel being played, i could not help but notice that this is one sexy mature crowd. I love me my back in timers ... I love them!

Now the set up was simple ... a stage for the steel and its players, some grass and soem chairs and some tall tables for the patrons, a DJ under a tent, a bar manned with three (3) to five (5) people, a food table with heaters on them to keep the "ting set hot", and speakers blaring those orgasmic melodies of a steel band in harmony! Heaven! Tonight on the stage performing was UWI Panoridim Steel Orchestra - a vibrant young group of talented individuals all with their very own unique energy and style mixed with charisma that will just have you shaking your head as they lay the pan sticks onto the steel!

The tunes ran for the entire night with a break inbetween where the DJ took over on the ones and twos and allowed people to get some drinks and some food. The food looked quite tasty but I did not have time to sample - however, the drinks were at a reduced price courtesy the Pegasus hotel - and bearing that in mind - the bar was flowing!

Steel Pan in Jamaica was a true eye opener for me ... didn't expect it to be so riveting - strongly recommend it next year as an after party from Lime Cay or ... lets just say ... this could be some intimate time between you and that "special" one ... the mood is correct, the venue is perfect, and its just a really mellow vibe under the stars and moonlight ... Scorn recommends!
