New York, NY (October 8, 2008): On Saturday, October 25th, the American Foundation  for the University of the West Indies (AFUWI) will host  Radiothon 2008 to raise funds which will be used to provide deserving students with much needed scholarships and grants.

Speaking of the upcoming event, Ann-Marie Grant, AFUWI’s Executive Director remarked, “Given that The University of The West Indies plays a vital role in the development and progress of the Caribbean region as a whole, it is imperative that the work of the institution be supported in order for this to continue.  Acknowledging the economic crisis here in the USA, the challenges for many students in the Caribbean region are even worse and so AFUWI is focusing on securing scholarships to help those needy students who will have no access to a college education if they do not get financial help.”

She continued, “Donations in cash and kind are welcome. No contribution is too small. Proceeds from Radiothon 2008 will be used for scholarships. We are asking the public to support this fund raising effort.”

Those wishing to make a pledge are invited to do so by calling 1 800 437 0448 or 1 800 440 6785 on Saturday, October 25th 2008.  Phone lines will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Last year’s Radiothon raised US$20,000 which contributed to scholarships for students and other related operational expenses.
