The Cayman Carnival Batabano committee got the weekend celebrations started with the newly introduced “Masquerade Fete” at the RoofTop centrally located in George Town.

With luggage in car (Cayman is safe like that) and passports in pockets (we still ent playing around), it was straight from the Owen Roberts International Airport to the party. Yes, apparently Batabano committee member Delfia also shares the “no-sticking” policy when it comes to carnival!  We rolled into the dance minutes after 9pm to a Rum & Champagne welcome together with complimentary masks, and before you knew it, Dr. Ram Dass was Zorro (see photo)It was $50 CI All Inclusive. That included rum, champagne and sensual food courtesy of Thai Orchid. Did someone say Sushi??!! While Ram Dass went brave with what looked like Conch Civiche, we enjoyed the bartender’s company while taking in the Soca selections played by DJ DomUneek.

Not too long after, in comes TnT's legendary Soca icon Edwin Ayoung, better known as Crazy to a warm Caymanian welcome. Our TJJ TV cameras caught up with Uncle Crazy who 1st informed us of his smooth landing with Cayman Airways, before educating us that he’s a scotch drinker and that he actually came to Cayman Carnival twenty years ago… before Soca even existed on the island paving the way for today’s young artistes. He then entertained the RoofTop crowd to his repoire of hits which included “The Party Now Start,” “One Foot Cock” and “Cold Sweat”, where one lady buss a lil’ wine on Crazy and it was instant cold sweat indeed.

As patrons enjoyed the atmosphere of the nicely decorated (masquerader costumes supporting the carnival theme) venue, with some folks even dancing on couches, we participated in a couple of social (and not so social) wines before heading over to Margaritaville to continue the Bacchanal with Destra.

Btw, congrats to whoever won the BlackBerry Torch raffled off by LIME.

When ya wine on me, I get Cold Sweat,
Chooks aka The Carnival Jumbie
